Teen Time: Dungeons and Dragons Session 0 TEENS Ages 12 & up
Tomorrow 3:30-5pm

Park Slope Library is forming our own Dungeons and Dragons group for ages 12-18! Come to Session 0 where we will establish the basics and set up our characters. No experience necessary!

This group will meet twice/month on Friday. The next session is Friday, March 20th. Based on the group the time could be shifted.

How to Write a Joke with Cartoonist Akeem S. Roberts
Tomorrow 6:00pm - 7:30pm
Park Slope Library is pleased to welcome Akeem S. Roberts to discuss his career as a cartoonist, the process behind selling cartoons to the New Yorker, and how you can start making your very own cartoons, too.

After a brief presentation, Akeem will lead participants through a joke brainstorm, writing and drawing workshop. Come and learn how to design your very own joke and cartoon in the style of the New Yorker. All experience levels welcome!

Being a Black Writer in the 21st Century: Erin E. Adams and Sidik Fofana

Park Slope Library welcomes authors Erin E. Adams and Sidik Fofana to discuss writing, identity, and building Black characters and Black worlds with authenticity.

In Erin E. Adams' Jackal, a young Black girl goes missing in the woods outside her white Rust Belt town. But she's not the first-and she may not be the last. . . . It's watching. As a Black woman, Liz doesn't exactly have fond memories of Johnstown, Pennsylvania, a predominantly white town. But her best friend is getting married, so she braces herself for a weekend of awkward and passive-aggressive reunions. Liz has grown, though; she can handle whatever awaits her. But on the day of the wedding, somewhere between dancing and dessert, the bride's daughter, Caroline, goes missing-and the only thing left behind is a piece of white fabric covered in blood. It's taking.

Sidik Fofana's Stories from the Tenants Downstairs explores eight interconnected stories following the tenants in the Banneker Homes, a low-income high rise in Harlem. At the Banneker homes, gentrification weighs on everyone's mind, as they weave in and out of each other's lives, endeavoring to escape from their pasts and forge new paths forward.

40th Annual New York Sword Dance Festival
Today 1:30-2:30pm AND 3:00-4:00pm
Bring the family for an exciting mid-winter celebration all the way from the heart of England! The 40th Annual New York Sword Dance Festival features dances based on customs from the farming and coal-mining regions of northern England, where the annual visit of the local sword dancers to the village homes was thought to guarantee good luck for the year.
The Festival will feature both mystical, stately long sword and vigorous rapper sword dancing, with live music on fiddle, accordion, and other instruments. In both types of sword dance, the dancers are linked in a ring by the “swords” they hold in their hands while they work as a team to weave intricate figures and patterns without breaking the circle. The dances are thought to have roots in ancient rituals, traces of which can still be seen in these present-day displays of skill.
