Our guiding principle is that those directly affected by the policies we are seeking to change should lead the organization because they are the true experts. Our members, based on their lived experiences, study and analysis, understand that we will never create a society in which all people have the rights and economic means to live out their destinies until we eliminate the structures that perpetuate inequality based on race, class and gender. This analysis is responsible for the founding of our organization and continues to be prevalent in many aspects of FUREE’s work. One of our organizational criteria for selecting new campaigns is that they must have the ability to expose and change racial, economic and gender inequality, and we are careful to publicly frame our campaigns using the lens of race, class and gender.
