Today, Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani announced “Block by Block: The Housing Plan for a New Era”—a $22 billion strategy aimed at building and preserving 400,000 affordable homes over the next decade.
Prior to the announcement, Fifth Avenue Committee was honored to host Mayor Mamdani for a tour of Gowanus to discuss the critical intersection of community planning, tenant protections, and investing in public housing and truly affordable housing.
Michelle de la Uz, Executive Director of FAC, shared: "FAC was proud to tour Gowanus with Mayor Mamdani prior to his "Block by Block" housing plan announcement where protecting tenants and building and preserving affordable and public housing were lifted up as equally important goals that his administration will prioritize."
True housing justice means fighting for both the tenants of today and the tenants of tomorrow. We are eager to work alongside the administration to ensure these commitments reach every block in our community. 💪✨

Big news! 📢 Fifth Avenue Committee is honored to receive a $371,000 award from NeighborWorks America to sustain our work in affordable housing and community advocacy. 🏠✨
This federal investment allows us to continue:
✅ Creating and preserving affordable homes.
✅ Empowering first-time homebuyers.
✅ Promoting sustainability and energy efficiency.
We are incredibly grateful to our advocates in Washington—U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Congressman Dan Goldman—for fighting to protect these essential resources.
