Vaad Hakohel Meets with 71st Precinct Leadership

On Thursday, the Vaad Hakohel/CHJCC Board members met with the 71st Precinctโ€™s new Commanding Officer, Deputy Inspector Perez, along with Sgt. Beretta and their team. We congratulated the Deputy Inspector on his recent promotion and welcomed the opportunity to begin building strong working relationships with him and his staff.

The meeting focused on preparing for the upcoming Tishrei season, community safety in Crown Heights, and collaboration with local partners such as Shmira, Shomrim, Hatzalah, and CHJCC. Together, we are working to expand community access to security resources and develop long-term strategies to keep our neighborhood safe.

We also expressed our deep appreciation to the Deputy Inspector and his team for their ongoing dedication and service. We encourage community members to thank our officers whenever they see them, small gestures that help strengthen these vital relationships.

We are excited about this new chapter of partnership with the 71st Precinct and look forward to continued collaboration for the betterment of our community.

The Vaad met with ESD officials regarding the Brooklyn project, alongside community members and activist Jay Sorid. Concerns were raised that the project currently does not align with local community interests. The Vaad emphasized the need for elected officials to advocate for the community's needs and ensure their voices are heard.

There have been reports of a planned anti-semitic march on the Jewish Community of Crown Heights tomorrow (Monday) evening. Senior officials of the New York Police Department have assured the leadership of CHJCC/Vaad Hakohol that a full plan will be implemented and that the protesters will be not be able to come in direct confrontation with the Crown Heights Jewish Community. The protesters will be gathering at Barclay Center (Atlantic and Flatbush) Monday night at 7pm. Residents are advised to be aware, especially if traveling into Crown Heights from Manhattan. Please do not engage with the protesters. They are attempting to incite a response that will bring negative results to our community.

Today, we honor the memory of Ari Halberstam, HY"D, on the 31st anniversary of his passing. Ari's life was tragically cut short in a 1994 terrorist attack on the Brooklyn Bridge.

His mother, Devorah Halberstam, has dedicated herself to creating positive change in our community. We recognize her tireless efforts, which have made a lasting impact in Crown Heights and beyond.

May Ari's memory be a blessing and continue to inspire goodness and kindness.
