Join us on Saturday, October 24, from 1:00 PM – 4:00 PM as neighbors unite for an afternoon of community pride and action.

Get paid to help keep New Yorkers safe after winter storms.

The next Brooklyn Emergency Snow Registration Event will be Saturday, October 3, 9 am. to 5 pm:

Brooklyn, NY 11213.

Shovelers who register at a DSNY registration event prior to Nov. 30 will be eligible for a paid four-hour orientation in December, as well as fast-tracked processing to receive a paycheck within two weeks of working.

Additional events across the five boroughs will be announced on DSNY’s New York City Department of Sanitation social media channels and at nyc.gov/SnowEmploy.

🏠 Cold Weather Heat Requirements — Know Your Rights

As we prepare for the colder months, Community Board 17 reminds residents and property owners about NYC’s required indoor heating standards during the October 1–May 31 heat season.

🌡️ During the day (6 AM–10 PM):
When the outside temperature is below 55°F, apartments must be heated to at least 68°F.

🌙 At night (10 PM–6 AM):
Indoor temperatures must be at least 62°F, regardless of the outside temperature.

If you are experiencing no heat or inadequate heat, you can file a complaint through 311, the NYC311 Mobile App, or online at nyc.gov/311.

Mayor Mamdani Issues Travel Advisory as Nor’easter Tracks Closer to New York City

New Yorkers should prepare for rain, strong winds and coastal flooding Friday, September 25 at 2pm through the morning of Sunday, September 27.

The City will continue to monitor the storm and provide updates as the forecast changes. Sign up for Notify NYC, the City’s free emergency alert system, by texting NOTIFYNYC to 692-692 or visiting nyc.gov/notifynyc. Basement apartment residents can sign up to receive automated flooding alerts through Notify NYC. For preparedness information, visit nyc.gov/beready.
