On Friday, May 1st, 2026, the office of CB17 will be closed as we observe a day of mourning to honor Chairperson Rodrick F. Daley's service and legacy. We honor and respect Mr. Daley's contribution to CB17 and the Community at large.

Interested in the future of the Interborough Express (IBX)? Join Metropolitan Transportation Authority - MTA at their interactive in-person workshops about the proposed light rail connection between Brooklyn and Queens.

In Loving Memory of Chair Rodrick Daley

On behalf of Community Board 17, we extend our deepest condolences on the passing of our beloved Chair, Rodrick Daley.

Chair Daley was more than a leaderโ€”he was a pillar of strength, a voice for the community, and a true servant of the people. His unwavering dedication, steadfast commitment, and genuine love for this community have left an indelible mark that will not be forgotten. He led with purpose, compassion, and integrity, always striving to uplift and support those around him.

We are profoundly grateful for his years of service, for the countless lives he touched, and for the legacy of leadership he leaves behind. His impact will continue to be felt throughout Community Board 17 for years to come.

To his family, we extend our heartfelt prayers and deepest sympathies. Please know that you are in our thoughts during this incredibly difficult time. We pray that you find comfort in the love that surrounds you, strength in the memories you shared, and peace in knowing how deeply he was respected and cherished by his community.

Chair Daleyโ€™s light will continue to shine through all of us who were blessed to know him and serve alongside him.

This past Saturday was a beautiful reminder of what community looks like in action. ๐ŸŒฟ๐Ÿ’š

A heartfelt THANK YOU to everyone who came out to support our Street Tree Care initiative in East Flatbush. Your time, energy, and commitment truly made a difference in helping us care for and beautify our neighborhood.

Special appreciation to Assemblymember Monique Chandler-Waterman, Council Member Farah Louis, Big Reuse, DYCD, NYC Community Development, the Parks Department, Community Board 17 Members, and the incredible Parks & Beautification Committee. Your leadership and partnership continue to uplift our community in meaningful ways.

To every volunteer who showed up ready to work, serve, and give back, we see you, we appreciate you, and we thank you. Because of you, our community is greener, stronger, and more connected.

At our March meeting, Brooklyn Community Board 17 proudly recognized two extraordinary women in honor of Women's History Month, Dr. Carol Reneau and Ms. Marietta Small.

Dr. Reneau, an educator and housing advocate, continues to make a powerful impact through her leadership, service, and commitment to advancing equity in our community.

Ms. Small, a dedicated community advocate, has consistently uplifted and supported residents through her unwavering commitment to service.
