"“Be the difference.”

Those words from Joe and Gabriel LaPointe, recipients of the Care Community Partner Award at COCA 2026, captured the spirit of an evening centered on care and community.

In his remarks, Joe reminded us that the work we do for our families, friends and communities matters — but so does the care we give ourselves. He encouraged us to give ourselves grace, make room for joy, rest when we need to, and remember that our contributions matter.

His message was a powerful reminder that caring for others starts with recognizing our own worth, too.

Today, CABS Health Network proudly participated for the third consecutive year in Hofstra University ’s School of Health Sciences Poverty Simulation, helping students understand how poverty, social determinants of health, and barriers to economic mobility impact the communities we serve.

Through this powerful experience, we reinforced the importance of empathy, compassion, and understanding as future healthcare professionals prepare to make a meaningful difference. Together, we are building a future where care and opportunity go hand in hand.

"As Cynthia Bailey shared, her mother survived breast cancer, and witnessing a loved one face health challenges is never easy. Through her caregiving journey, Cynthia reminds us that while we may not be able to take away every hardship, we can listen, show up, and make sure our loved ones never feel alone.

💗 “I can listen, show up, and remind her that she doesn’t have to face it alone.”

Her words are a beautiful reminder that caregiving is rooted in love, compassion, dignity, and support. This month, we honor breast cancer survivors, those currently navigating their journeys, the families who stand beside them, and the caregivers who offer strength through every step.
