Attention Grab-and-Go participants: Starting January 2023, we will be serving ALL lunches directly out of our kitchen inside the center (from 12:00-12:45PM). Please call us at 718-941-6700 if you have any questions about the change.

Happy (belated) Holidays from Dorchester Senior Citizens Center!

Dorchester Senior Center is open from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

In the center a fresh-cooked Kosher lunch is served at 12:00 PM, 5 days a week.

For those who wish to pick up their lunch at the door and take it home, we offer "Grab and Go" lunch 5 days a week, from 12:45 PM to 1:15 PM. These are available for pick-up at Dorchester Road door, down a few steps, under the green awning.

Our activities schedule is gradually being expanded.

Zumba Gold class Tuesday and Thursday at 10:00 AM
Aerobics class Monday, Wednesday & Friday at 10:00 AM
English as a Second Language class Monday & Thurs. 10:30 AM
Sing-A-Long chorus Wednesday & Friday at 11:00 AM
SU-CASA painting class Tuesday 10:30-12:30 (class is full)
ZOOM virtual Chorus class Wednesday & Friday 11:00 AM

Dorchester Senior Citizens Center is happy to announce that the NYC Department for the Aging has approved for senior centers to reopen as early as June 14th for in-person services. We will post updates as we work towards resuming our programming.

We will continue offering our Zoom classes for our chorus and Singing Swingers groups. Upon reopening, we plan to broadcast in-person groups via Zoom, so members can continue enjoying our programming virtually.

STARTING MONDAY MARCH 30TH, Dorchester is closed and is not serving take-out lunches until further notice. Meals are now being delivered to seniors' homes. Call 311 if you would like delivery and are not a current regular attendee at a senior center, so that you can be placed on the senior home delivery list. Stay home and stay safe!

Due to the COVID-19 imperative to stay safe, Dorchester is serving "Grab and Go" take-out lunches. Pick them up from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, Monday through Friday. The Dept. for the Aging is planning to change to a delivery system soon. Call Dorchester if you would like delivery and we need your current address and phone number. Call 718-941-6700 between 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.

Onto the next chapter in my life...

I did it.

Today, after 10 years (on and off), I retired from my job at the Dorchester Senior Citizens Center. I can truly say it's been a wonderful experience and I have had the privilege of working with great people. This whole week has been a series of hugs, kisses, gifts and a few shed tears from both my co-workers and the wonderful seniors I have worked with. I love them dearly and I know that they love me but it wasn't until today, during a special lunch held in my honor, that I found out how much my seniors truly appreciated and loved me. I really had no idea I had impacted them in such a deep way. In return, I don't think I can ever express to them how much they have impacted and changed me for the better. Can there be a better way to end a career?

Here are the faces of some of the people who made my life at Dorchester a pleasure every day I was there. It has been an honor and a privilege and I will be forever blessed by the experience of working there.

As we say goodbye to 2019, we also say goodbye to our wonderful crafts teacher, Gitana the Creative Diva, who is retiring. This colorful gift bag is her final project with her crafting group.

In this final craft project for 2019, we turned a plain brown bag from flat to fabulous with a colorful panel glitzed up with glitter, stars and string lights made of paper stickers. A little tag for the recipient's name caps it off. This not only marks the end of the year, it also marks the end of my tenure with Dorchester Senior Center. I'm retiring from my beloved seniors to render eldercare to one of my own elders. The circle of life continues. I will miss them dearly.

In one of the last craft projects of the year, we create a pretty Christmas card comprised of bits and pieces of other kits and projects. It's a pretty little mash-up.

The title of this card tells the tale. All the elements were taken from other projects and kits to create a beautiful mash-up. The cards all have the same layout but are each slightly different because of the different embellishments used.

This week we'll be talking up the season with this holiday card made with bits and pieces scavenged from other kits and whatever was lying around the workshop. Although all the cards will have the same layout, no two will look quite the same.
