The future of the fire service is bright. 🚒

Last week, Melanie Wingo and the KCRA 3 team joined us during the second week of the seventh annual Yocha Dehe Youth Fire Academy.

Each summer, this free program brings together young people from across the region and beyond to learn from Yocha Dehe Fire Department firefighters, challenge themselves and discover what's possible through service, leadership and teamwork.

Thank you to KCRA for helping us share the story of this incredible program and the young people who choose to spend part of their summer learning how to protect and serve others.

This week, Yocha Dehe welcomed Tribal leaders, legal scholars and policy experts from across Indian Country to Cache Creek Casino Resort for the Tribal Executive Leadership Forum.

As part of the two-day gathering, Tribal Secretary Mia Durham welcomed attendees and helped open important conversations focused on Tribal sovereignty, Tribal homelands, water rights and the future of Tribal nations.

The forum brought together leaders and subject-matter experts to share perspectives, strengthen relationships and explore the challenges and opportunities facing Indian Country today and for generations to come.

Thank you Indigenous Futures Society for organizing an incredible event!

For generations, Glen Cove has been a place of deep cultural and natural significance to the Patwin people.

Long before restoration efforts began, Yocha Dehe, Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation and the City of Vallejo established a cultural and conservation easement in 2011 to help protect this shoreline’s cultural and natural resources.

Building on that shared commitment, restoration efforts supported through Doyuti T’uhkama began in 2021 with a focus on restoring native habitat, strengthening ecological health and helping ensure the long-term resilience of the site.

Here’s a snapshot of that progress — and the partnership, care and stewardship that continue to guide this work.
