Found a bug you don’t recognize? Hernando County residents can get help identifying it for FREE!

Bring your mystery bug to the UF IFAS Extension Hernando County office, where Dr. Stacy Strickland can help identify the insect and may even help you figure out what to do next.

🪲 Bring us the evidence—but please make sure the bug is dead!
Place it in a secure container before bringing it to the office.
You can also submit clear photos through the online DDIS service at ddis.ifas.ufl.edu
The Plant Clinic can also help with questions about plant diseases and weeds.

Thank you to everyone who came out for the UF IFAS Extension Hernando County Annual Coastal Cleanup on September 19! Over 175 volunteers spread out across Hernando County’s coastal areas to make a BIG impact. Together, you collected more than 3,000 pounds of trash from our coastal areas!

Some volunteers joined us for the very first time, while others have made this cleanup an annual tradition. Families, friends, and community members of all ages gave their time, energy and heart to our community. Whether you picked up one piece of trash or filled a whole bag, you made a difference. 🌊

🌊♻️ Join Us for the 11th Annual Hernando County Coastal Cleanup! ♻️🌊

Help make a difference for our waterways, shorelines, and wildlife by participating in the 11th Annual Hernando County Coastal Cleanup, coordinated by UF/IFAS Extension Hernando County in partnership with the Ocean Conservancy, local businesses, and community organizations.

Volunteers can participate on land or on the water. Those participating by water are welcome to clean areas only accessible by boat, kayak, or paddlecraft; however, participants are responsible for providing their own vessel and safety equipment.

All volunteers must check in at Linda Pedersen Park to receive cleanup supplies and instructions. Please return all collected debris to our station so it can be properly documented and disposed of.

👕 The first 150 volunteers to check in will receive a FREE event t-shirt!

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 This event is open to all ages. Youth participants are welcome but must be supervised by an adult.
