08/25/2026

Global icon and humanitarian, Dolly Parton, known to the world as a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author died peacefully today in Nashville, Tennessee. She was 80 years old.

Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 – 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 – 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 – 2000).

A rhinestone life that shone bright enough for the world to see, Dolly will forever stand as an inspiration not only through her timeless music and prolific songwriting, but also her wit, warmth, and kindness that made us all feel like family. Dolly Parton’s legacy is one of love, compassion, and resilience. With a seven-decade career, she inspired multiple generations of artists and fans with her music and an unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. Her songs will continue to resonate with people of all ages, and her philanthropic work will have a lasting impact.

At Dolly’s request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly’s fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com

In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library at www.imaginationlibrary.com

*Attention Parents of 2026 FCHS Seniors*

This year marks the 5th graduating class that includes students who were once enrolled in the Imagination Library of Franklin County (ILFC). If your child participated in the Imagination Library as a preschooler and will be a 2026 FCHS graduate, we would love to celebrate this milestone with you. To honor your senior, ILFC would like to place a congratulatory yard sign at your home.

If your child was enrolled in the Imagination Library as a preschooler and you would like to receive a yard sign, please email [email protected] by May 26, 2026 to let us know your graduate’s name and address. An ILFC Board member will deliver the sign before the FCHS Graduation Ceremony and will pick it up about two weeks after graduation.

Imagination Library of Franklin County (ILFC) Thanks Beta Eta Chapter of Tri Kappa – July Book Label Sponsor

A big thank you to Tri Kappa for being the ILFC Book Label Sponsor for July. Franklin County children enrolled in Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library (from birth until age 5) receive an age-appropriate book in the mail addressed to them each month at no cost to the child or their family. This month a total of 639 children enrolled in ILFC were mailed books for July, with children receiving their book in the mail the last part of July and the first part of August.

“Brookville’s Beta Eta Chapter of Tri Kappa is very excited to support Imagination Library of Franklin County by sponsoring their books in July. This is a perfect fit since education is one of the areas we support. Beginning reading and exposure to books early in a child’s life is extremely important.” -Shelly Lunsford, President Beta Eta Chapter of Tri Kappa. Imagination Library of Franklin County salutes Tri Kappa for supporting our mission of promoting a love of reading and lifelong learning for our Franklin County children and community.

If other organizations or businesses would like to become a book label sponsor for one month, please contact ILFC at [email protected] or talk to any of our nine ILFC Board members who are listed on our website (imaginationlibraryfcin.com).
