Today is National Mushroom Day! Here are 6 ways you could celebrate:

1. Start simple by wishing everyone a Happy National Mushroom Day – your family, friends, coworkers, barista, and strangers on the sidewalk.

2. Join your local Pennsylvania mushroom/mycology club! Find a list at https://naturalheritage.dcnr.pa.gov/Fungi.html.

3. Head outside for some foraging or mycologizing. Add your species observations to iNaturalist or Mushroom Observer to help science and conservation efforts! (Don't skip getting a picture of the spore-bearing surface - gills, pores, teeth, etc.)

4. Read something! May we suggest “Hunting Mushrooms” by Pennsylvania-based author Barbora Batokova (FUNGIWOMAN)? Or “The Importance of Fungi,” a free booklet available online comprised of 13 articles written by members of the Pennsylvania Biological Survey’s Mycological Technical Committee.

5. Watch something! Such as a Learn Your Land YouTube video, a fungi documentary, or sure, something from the Cordyceps zombie film genre.

6. Make a new mushroom dish with friends!

On October 8, 2026, our staff with Meadow and Twilight Flower Farm, held a pollinators and seeds workshop. Attendees learned about different pollinators and the importance of these pollinators. They then had the opportunity to walk the flower farm and collect a variety of seeds to start their very own pollinator areas.
