Commissioner Craig Hill is pleased to announce that the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery – North Alabama has officially broken ground!

The North Alabama Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be located on 150 acres off Maysville Road in District 3. It will provide approximately 150,000 burial sites over its projected 200-year lifespan.
This is a wonderful addition to District 3 and Madison County. Congressman Strong’s commitment to improving North Alabama and his ability to bring dollars that will allow the North Alabama Veterans Memorial Cemetery to be built in our district is a great honor for our community. The Tate family’s decision to sell their property so that taxpayer funds could build a veterans cemetery shows their deep love for Madison County.
District 3 is honored to have been involved in the initial planning process, and we are grateful to Alabama Veterans Affairs for allowing us to be a partner in bringing this vision to life. With an outstanding design and architectural team in place, we look forward to the day when this cemetery serves as a place of honor, remembrance, and reflection for veterans and their families throughout our region.
Thank you to Congressman Dale Strong, Alabama Veterans Affairs and Veterans Commissioner Jeff Newton, and our Legislative Delegation for allowing us to be a partner. Thank you to Central and Moores Mill Volunteer Fire Departments for joining us today and providing the flag for this occasion. We would also like to give a special thanks to all the Veterans for their service, sacrifice and dedication to our nation.

Thank you to our District 3 staff for their willingness to help get this project off the ground. In the upcoming months, District 3 crews will continue making improvements along Maysville Road to help accommodate the future visitors of the cemetery.

❗️New Hope Rec Center❗️
We are now 100% complete with closing off the drive between the Rec Center and ballfields to vehicle traffic. You will now access the back parking lot through a new drive to the west of the football field.
There has also been a new fence installed beside the gym with two 8’ gates that will allow vendors to unload at events such as opening day.
Our engineering department is currently in the process of a parking lot design for painted parking spaces in the back parking lot. We will also be repainting the front parking lot.

May 30, 2025, was the groundbreaking ceremony for the Killingsworth Cove Broadband Project. This partnership between NHTC and Commissioner Caig Hill brought high-speed fiber internet to the unserved and underserved areas of the Killingsworth Cove Community and surrounding areas. We are thrilled to share that, in less than 14 months, NHTC is expanding their fiber network into the Gurley Community.
Phase 2 of NHTC’s high-speed broadband internet services via a world-class fiber network will begin on September 21st. It will consist of 6 zones in the Town of Gurley through a franchise agreement with the Town.
NHTC will also begin installing fiber drops needed to connect homes and businesses to their network! If you are interested in this service, you can click the link and complete NHTC’s contact form. https://nhtc.coop/gurley/

Over the next several weeks residents may find brochures at their door and utility work in front of their homes. Through a franchise agreement with the Town of Gurley, NHTC will be delivering underground fiber internet connectivity throughout the Town below Keel Mountain.

Starting on September 21st, the NHTC team will be working through the Town in Zones as shown on the map below. Once Zone 1 is complete they will begin on Zone 2, until all 6 zones are complete.

You can find out more about this project at the NHTC website linked below:

❗️New Hope Rec Center❗️
This one is a little more personal, having participated in youth sports at the New Hope YMCA and Rec Center.
For many years, I think we can all agree, that the drive between the gym and baseball field should have been closed. We are currently 90% complete with closing that drive and rerouting traffic to separate parking lots that will not require cars to drive through pedestrian traffic. The safety of our community and even more, our children, has been top priority for nearly 10 years now. Thank you to Brandon Pritchett and our District 3 New Hope staff for this very important safety improvement. The paving should be complete today and we will install safety devices within the next week to eliminate any automobile traffic where children will be walking or playing.
