Recognized as one of the Top 25 Landscape Lighting Contractors in the Midwest!

Last year, Arrow Valley Landscaping earned this recognition, and it’s a reflection of the attention to detail we put into every lighting design.

Professionally designed landscape lighting does more than illuminate walkways. It adds depth to your property, highlights architectural features, showcases trees and landscaping, and creates an entirely different atmosphere after dark.

The key is knowing what to illuminate, where to position fixtures, and how to balance light and shadow. Too much lighting can be just as ineffective as too little.

A great landscape deserves to be enjoyed during the day AND at night!

The better your outdoor and indoor spaces flow together, the more you’ll actually use and enjoy both of them.

One of the biggest mistakes homeowners make is waiting until their house is finished being built before thinking about their backyard patio.

Your indoor and outdoor living spaces should be designed to complement one another, not feel like two separate projects.

When planned together, we can create a natural transition from your home to your patio, thoughtfully incorporating outdoor dining, entertaining areas, fire features, and landscaping.

At Arrow Valley Landscaping, our 3D design process allows you to visualize your entire outdoor living space before construction begins. We consider everything from patio elevations and access points to furniture placement, lighting, and the overall experience of the space.

A great outdoor living space shouldn’t feel like an addition to your home. It should feel like an extension of it.

Planning a new home? Let’s design your outdoor living space alongside it!

Before you cut back your hydrangeas this fall, read this!

Did you know that pruning certain hydrangeas in the fall can prevent them from blooming next summer?

Hydrangeas like Limelight and Incrediball bloom on new growth and are generally best pruned in late winter or early spring.

Other varieties, like Oakleaf and many Bigleaf hydrangeas, bloom on old wood. Cutting them back now could remove next year’s flower buds!

The takeaway? Not all hydrangeas should be maintained the same way. Knowing what you have is the first step toward a healthier, better-looking landscape.

Did you know that too much mulch can actually kill your trees?

One of the most common landscaping mistakes is piling mulch against the base of a tree, often called “volcano mulching.”

While mulch helps retain moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weeds, too much mulch around the trunk can trap moisture against the bark, encourage decay, and contribute to root problems.

The proper way? Apply 2–3 inches of mulch around the tree, keeping it several inches away from the trunk and leaving the root flare exposed.

Sometimes, doing less is actually better for your landscape!

Did you know landscape planting season doesn’t end with the first frost?

Many trees and shrubs can still be planted well into late fall, as long as the ground isn’t frozen!

As plants enter dormancy, cooler temperatures reduce transplant stress, allowing them to establish roots before the growing season returns.

The key is choosing the right plants and installing them correctly.

At Arrow Valley Landscaping, we can help you select the right trees and shrubs to create a landscape that looks great for years to come.

Privacy trees do more than just block the view!

Strategically planted trees can completely change how you enjoy your outdoor space.

Beyond creating a natural privacy screen, trees can help block winter winds, reduce noise, provide wildlife habitat, and add year-round beauty to your property.

Evergreens are especially effective because they provide privacy in every season!

The key is selecting the right trees and spacing them properly for long-term growth.

Looking to create a more private backyard? Let Arrow Valley Landscaping help you design a natural privacy screen!

Think it’s too late to plant trees and shrubs? Think again!

Late October is still a great time to add many trees and shrubs to your landscape.

Cooler temperatures reduce stress on plants, while warm soil allows roots to continue developing even after the leaves have fallen. This gives plants a head start when spring arrives!

Not every plant is suited for late-season planting, but there’s still time to improve your landscape before winter.

This is what happens when every detail of a landscape is intentional!

This entire backyard was designed around one thing: creating a place to make memories with friends and family.

The privacy fence creates a secluded space, while the pergola and string lights set the mood. The smokeless fire pit keeps everyone comfortable, and the three fountains add the relaxing sound of flowing water.

A winding lawn framed by Incrediball hydrangeas draws your eyes toward the back of the property, where landscape lighting softly illuminates the mature trees.

Every detail has a purpose, and it all comes together to create a space you never want to leave!
