🥶 Brrrrr… the first big push of colder air has arrived in Maine! As temperatures drop, many people will turn to supplemental heating sources to stay warm. But remember: Space heaters need SPACE! 🔥

Keep your home and family safe by following these important tips:

✅ Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including furniture, curtains, bedding and clothing.
✅ Plug heaters directly into a wall outlet — never an extension cord or power strip.
✅ Turn heaters off when leaving the room or going to bed.
✅ Place heaters on a flat, stable surface away from foot traffic.
✅ Choose heaters with automatic shut-off features and follow the manufacturer's instructions.

A little extra warmth should never come at the expense of your safety! Help prevent home fires this heating season by giving space heaters the room they need.

🔥 Lithium-ion batteries can catch fire!

E-bikes, e-scooters, power tools, and other rechargeable devices commonly use lithium-ion batteries.

These batteries are generally safe when used properly. However, damage, overheating, defects, or improper charging can trigger thermal runaway, producing intense heat, flammable gases, and potentially fire.

Simple ways to prevent battery fires:

• Never charge batteries on beds, sofas, or near flammable materials.

• Avoid charging unattended or while sleeping.

• Use certified, compatible chargers recommended by the manufacturer.

• Charge on a hard, non-combustible surface.

• Store batteries in a cool, dry place, away from heat and emergency exits.

• Stop using batteries that are swollen, damaged, unusually hot, or giving off strange odors.

If a battery starts smoking or catches fire, leave the area immediately, stay outside, and call the fire department.

Remember: Safe charging and proper storage can help prevent fires.

🔥 A FULL charge isn’t worth a house fire!

A simple charging habit can put your home and family at risk.

Most smartphones use lithium-ion batteries. When damaged, defective, or overheated, these batteries can enter thermal runaway, potentially causing a fire.

⚠️ Never charge your phone on a bed, sofa, or under a pillow.

⚠️ Avoid charging unattended or while sleeping.

⚠️ Use certified, compatible chargers and charge on a hard, non-combustible surface.

A little precaution can prevent a big disaster. Charge safely and protect your home and family.
