Isaias Day 2: Storms Return This Afternoon

Strong storms will move through Brunswick this afternoon and evening, mainly from 2 PM to 11 PM. Damaging gusts and brief tornadoes are possible, and warnings may come with little notice.

A Flood Watch is in effect until 8 PM. The ground is soaked, so streets will flood quickly. Never drive through flooded roads.

Know your safe spot, keep phone alerts on, and stay out of the ocean.

Rain ends early Sunday, and next week looks dry and sunny.

Hurricane Isaias update 10/9/26 2:30 pm update

Isaias makes landfall on the Florida Panhandle this evening. Brunswick is not under a hurricane or tropical storm warning, but the storm's outer bands will bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and a few strong storms through Saturday.

A Flood Watch is in effect for Glynn County from 2 PM Friday to 8 PM Saturday.

What to expect:
Rain: 1 to 3 inches, with some spots up to 5 inches. Brunswick is forecast to get about 2.3 inches.

Timing: Friday night brings the heaviest rain.

Tornadoes: A few isolated tornadoes are possible Friday night into Saturday, and warnings may come with little notice.

Wind: Gusts up to 32 mph could bring down limbs and power lines.
Beaches: There is a high rip current risk through late Saturday night.

No local damage or road closures have been reported as of 1:30 PM. We will post updates here as conditions change.

⚠️ CITY OF BRUNSWICK WEATHER UPDATE Friday, October 9 As of 5 a.m. EDT

Keep more than one way to receive weather warnings tonight and Saturday.

The highest tornado potential in our region is farther inland in southeast Georgia and the Suwannee Valley. Stay alert here, too. If a tornado warning is issued for your location, move to a small interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows.

Hurricane Isaias is headed toward the northern Gulf Coast. Brunswick is east of its expected track, but heavy rain and thunderstorms can still reach southeast Georgia. Strong wind gusts and brief tornadoes are possible late tonight through Saturday.

A Flood Watch covers inland and coastal Glynn County from 2 p.m. today through Saturday evening. Heavy rain and runoff could flood low-lying areas and roads. Never drive through floodwater.

At the coast, rough surf, dangerous rip currents, elevated tides and beach erosion remain concerns. Stay out of the surf. The high rip-current risk for southeast Georgia beaches continues through late Saturday night, and a Small Craft Advisory is in effect for local coastal waters until 5 a.m. Sunday. The St. Johns River tidal-flood advisory in regional forecasts applies to Florida, not Brunswick.

What you can do today

1. Charge your phone
2.secure loose outdoor items
3. follow US National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida and NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center updates as conditions change.

What does Georgia’s State of Emergency mean for Brunswick?

Brunswick is not currently in the area expected to see direct impacts from Hurricane Isaias. We’ll monitor conditions over the next few days and stand ready if the storm shifts.

A State of Emergency is a preparedness tool, not an evacuation notice. The Governor’s order makes state resources available for preparation, response, and recovery. It directs activation of the State Operations Center, allows up to 500 Georgia National Guard personnel to be called up if needed, and directs state agencies to help utility crews and equipment move through Georgia for power restoration.

City of Brunswick Weather Update October 7, 2026

🌊 Stay out of the surf. Don't drive through flooded roads.

Active alerts from NWS Jacksonville:

• High Rip Current Risk for southeast Georgia beaches through late Saturday night
• Coastal Flood Advisory for Coastal Glynn until 5 a.m. Thursday

Expect minor flooding in low-lying lots, parks, and roads. The High Surf Advisory has been cancelled.

Looking ahead: Tropical Storm Isaias could bring heavy rain Friday and Saturday. With the ground already soaked, water will have nowhere to go. Now is the time to clear gutters and move vehicles out of spots that flood.

Resharing from last year because it’s Fire Prevention Week!!! 🔥 This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety. Safe Charging Is a Superpower”, which focuses on everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

This video shares a few dos and don’ts for using and charging lithium-ion batteries! ⬇️

🌧️ Rain doesn’t fall the same on all. From October 1–5, CoCoRaHS observers reported these amounts around Glynn County:

• Brunswick 7.9 NNW: 5.50 inches
• Brunswick 4.5 NNW: 4.10 inches (a multi-day accumulation ending October 5)
• Jekyll Island 0.6 E: 3.94 inches
• St. Simons 1.1 SW: 3.84 inches

These are reported amounts, not complete five-day totals at every station. More local rain gauges help show where rain falls across our community. A gauge measures rainfall, not how much freshwater ultimately reaches our waterways.

The City of Brunswick prefers CoCoRaHS Headquarters for collecting and sharing local rainfall observations. Want to help fill the gaps?

Become a volunteer observer: cocorahs.org/Application.aspx.

A manual rain gauge is required.
