Hurricane Isaias Update
9:15 a.m. | Friday, October 9, 2026

Based on the latest update from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency and the National Weather Service in Jacksonville, Glynn County is not under a tropical storm or storm surge warning for Hurricane Isaias. Local impacts are expected from the storm’s outer bands as it approaches the northern Gulf Coast.

A Flood Watch is in effect from 2 p.m. today through Saturday evening. Rainfall totals of 1–3 inches are expected, with heavier rain increasing this afternoon and evening.

Coastal winds are expected to reach 15–25 mph, with gusts of 30–35 mph. Isolated severe storms and brief tornadoes are possible tonight through Saturday, with the greater threat farther west. Dangerous rip currents, rough surf and beach erosion also remain concerns.

Governor Kemp’s statewide state of emergency makes resources available to support preparedness, response and recovery efforts.

Glynn County will continue to monitor the storm and issue updates as they become available.

Good morning, Golden Isles!

The Glynn County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency is keeping an eye on the path of Hurricane Isaias. As of right now, models are showing the storm making landfall along the northern Gulf Coast and then heading inland at a westward angle.

The path is very favorable for our area, but we continue to monitor the situation so we can be aware of any local impacts we may see from the storm.

Though we do not anticipate any direct impact to our area from Isaias, now is a good time to remember that:

🌀A little preparation now can make a big difference if a tropical storm or hurricane threatens our area.

🌀Now is a good time to sign up for CodeRED emergency alerts, check your emergency plan, and make sure your household is prepared if a storm comes our way.

🌀Review your supplies, know where you would go if an evacuation is ordered, and plan for medications, pets, and anyone who may need assistance.

🌀Encourage family and neighbors to prepare as well and follow official Glynn County updates as forecasts develop.

While there are no tropical systems impacting us currently, we are looking at some harsh weather conditions over the next week. A stalled frontal boundary means rain and thunderstorms will start tomorrow and increase over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, we're looking at 1" to 1.5" of rain over the weekend and 4" to 5" of rain next week. There could be localized, brief flooding this weekend and early next week as well as some wind gusts of 40-50 mph.

Nor'easter conditions are likely to return as well starting early next week. The risk of rip currents wil be moderate throughout the weekend.

Have a happy weekend, but be safe and keep an eye on the weather!

Be mindful of the Nor'easter this weekend.

From the National Weather Service:

Our nor'easter forecast remains on track, as northerly winds continue to strengthen over the Atlantic waters and along the I-95 corridor and coastal locations early this morning. :thermometer:Temperatures were falling through the 60s for inland locations along and north of the I-10 corridor early this morning!

Briefly heavy showers will be possible through tonight along the I-95 corridor. Mostly cloudy skies and breezy conditions elsewhere will keep highs today in the upper 70s and lower 80s across southeast GA and northeast FL, with mid 80s possible across north central FL.

Northerly winds will peak later today through Friday at coastal locations, with sustained speeds of 20-25 mph that will frequently gust to 30-35 mph. Small Craft Advisories are posted for the Atlantic coastal waters through early Saturday morning.

A high risk of deadly rip currents is expected through the weekend, with high surf advisories posted at all area beaches through Friday night. Minor beach erosion will be possible around times of high tide through Saturday.

These strong winds will combine with higher astronomical tides due to this weekend's full "Harvest" moon to create minor flooding around times of high tide along the Atlantic coast and Intracoastal Waterway beginning with this evening's high tide, with minor flooding then possible around times of high tide through Friday. Minor flooding around times of high tide will extend to the St. Johns River basin beginning on Friday, with high astronomical tides likely keeping water levels elevated in this basin into next week.

Glynn and Brunswick EMAs have partnered to launch Golden Isles Business Ready.

Golden Isles Business Ready is a new voluntary, no-cost program designed to strengthen partnerships between local businesses and emergency management while helping the private sector prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies.

Businesses are an essential part of the Golden Isles community, and their ability to continue operating—or return to operation quickly—following a disaster can play an important role in the community’s overall recovery.

The goals of Golden Isles Business Ready include:

Strengthening communication and relationships between Emergency Management and the local business community.

Helping businesses improve emergency preparedness and continuity planning.

Creating stronger lines of communication before, during and after emergencies.

Identifying private-sector resources and capabilities that may be available to support community response and recovery.

Building a more resilient Golden Isles by bringing the public and private sectors together before disaster strikes.

Participation in Golden Isles Business Ready is completely voluntary and provided at no cost to participating businesses.

The program is based on a simple idea: the best time for Emergency Management and the business community to build relationships is before an emergency happens.

By developing those partnerships now, businesses can better understand how the EMA responds during emergencies, EMA can better understand the needs and capabilities of the private sector, and both can work together toward a faster and more effective recovery for the entire community.
