🚒And just like that, four installments of the Citizens’ Fire Academy are in the books. Time is flying, and everyone is learning so much!

Chief Lambert led the discussion on Planning, Growth, and Innovation. One of the big lessons learned is that resources are finite and must be apportioned where they will do the most good. As someone once said, “There are no solutions; there are only tradeoffs.”

After that discussion, students broke up into teams and were given a resource allocation exercise, showing how they would spend money coming into the department given the choice.

The evening wrapped up with a discussion and a demonstration of mechanical advantage. Students pulled over 300 pounds of weights as if it were 60!

Four more classes to go! We can’t wait!

Lifesavers!

Last night the students at the Glynn County Citizens’ Fire Academy learned about the jobs, requirements, rules and restrictions of emergency medical professionals operating at Glynn County Fire Rescue.

Students learned the difference between an EMT, an AEMT, and a Paramedic.

They also got to meet Frankie. Frankie was a bit under the weather, but then, as the training Manikin for Glynn County Fire Rescue, he’s always under the weather!

All in all, last night was another highly-enjoyable, informative course that helped the students gain a better understanding of how these lifesavers do their work in our community!

Glynn County Fire Rescue Strengthens Emergency Response Thanks to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® Grant

As first responders continue serving the Golden Isles, it is essential that Glynn County Fire Rescue has the tools needed to respond effectively in emergencies. The Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation® has recognized this need and recently awarded the department a $12,836 grant to purchase 504 Lithium-Ion Smoke Detector Units for community distribution.

The new smoke detectors will enable Glynn County Fire Rescue to further its mission of ensuring that all homes have working smoke detectors regardless of the residents’ financial status or ability to pay.

“We are extremely grateful to the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation and our local Firehouse Subs® restaurant in Brunswick for this vital support,” said Vincent DiCristofalo, Chief of Glynn County Fire Rescue. “Smoke alarms are essential to keeping our community safe by providing early warning of fires and giving families valuable time to escape and call for help.”

For more than 20 years, charitable donations have powered the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation’s mission to support first responders and public safety organizations nationwide. Since 2005, the Foundation has awarded more than 7,200 grants totaling over $109 million to public safety organizations.

To learn more or support the mission, visit any Firehouse Subs restaurant or the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation website at FirehouseSubsFoundation.org.

Our next fire academy begins in a little over a week, and Recruits Fiveash and Shaffer are already preparing!

The crew at Station 2 spent some time working with them on a disoriented firefighter drill, which helps firefighters develop the skills needed to navigate and regain their bearings in low-visibility conditions.

We appreciate our crews taking the time to help prepare the next generation of GCFR firefighters.

Hands! On!

The second night of the Glynn County Citizens’ Fire Academy was amazing. Participants got to engage in hands on activities all evening.

-They handled irons from a fire truck, while learning all of the ins and outs of the truck and how it operates!

-The got to use the spreader and cutter to learn firsthand how firefighters are able to treat people trapped in vehicles after a collision or a rollover.

-Yes, they even got to climb the ladder!

If you didn’t register for our Citizens’ Fire Academy this time around, keep your eyes on our page. Next time it’s available, don’t miss this!

Fire Prevention Week continues! GCFR has an important tip for you:

FULLY CHARGED? TIME TO UNPLUG!

Leaving your phone, tablet, power tools, or other rechargeable devices plugged in longer than necessary can increase the risk of overheating and fire.

Protect your home and family with these simple charging safety tips!

✅ Unplug devices once they are fully charged.

✅ Avoid charging devices overnight or while sleeping.

✅ Always use manufacturer-approved chargers.

✅ Charge devices on hard, flat surfaces away from flammable materials.

✅ Never leave charging devices unattended for extended periods.

Glynn County Fire Rescue reminds you: Charge safely, unplug when finished, and help prevent battery-related fires!

This week, due to recent fires in both areas, we conducted two Smoke Alarm Blitzes in Glynn County, one at Deer Run Villas on St. Simons and the other at Gressel Circle off of Highway 341.

A Smoke Alarm Blitz gives us an opportunity to go door to door and check people's smoke alarms to ensure they're functioning. Sometimes we find that a home doesn't have a smoke alarm at all. We travel to these events with a large supply of smoke alarms that will enable us to replace non-functioning smoke alarms and install alarms in homes that have never had them.

During this week's two brief outings, we were able to visit eighty-four homes and install eighty-one smoke alarms, including in nine homes that had zero smoke alarms, our most successful Smoke Alarm Blitzes to date!

Gressel Circle, we thank you for the warm welcome!

Yesterday, due to a recent fire in the area, we conducted a Smoke Alarm Blitz to ensure that nearby homes are armed with one of the most basic fire safety tools, the smoke alarm.

We were treated like part of the family in this tight-knit community that boasts a spectacular marsh view. We were even offered a Fanta! Thanks also to the Red Cross for helping in the effort and providing another supply of smoke alarms.

Partnering for public safety should always be this easy!
