🤠 The Wild West of Walk-Ins is Getting a Little More Organized!

If you’ve visited our office during walk-in hours lately, you may have noticed things have started to look (and feel!) a little like the Wild West. 🤠

We love that so many veterans and their families are turning to us for assistance, and we want to help as many of you as possible. But there’s one thing we’ve really come to recognize: Your time is valuable. And so is the time of every veteran waiting to be seen.

That’s why, effective today, October 15th, we’re making some changes to how we handle walk-ins at the Brazos County Veteran Services Office.

📋 What CAN we help you with during walk-ins?

* Registering new veterans and surviving family members in our system
* Answering general VA benefits and eligibility questions
* Explaining the claims and appeals process
* Helping you understand what documents and evidence you may need
* Connecting you with federal, state, and local veteran resources
* Providing information about VA healthcare, education benefits, burial benefits, and survivor benefits
* Scheduling appointments for more in-depth assistance
* Helping you figure out where to start when you’re not sure what you need!

📅 What will require a scheduled appointment?

Filing new disability claims, increases, supplemental claims, appeals, and other claims requiring individualized development or extensive review of your records.

Here’s why this matters:

Filing a VA claim isn’t something we believe should be rushed. It takes time to review your history, identify potential benefits, discuss supporting evidence, and develop a claim that accurately reflects your circumstances.

That deserves a dedicated, one-on-one appointment where we can give you our full attention, without the pressure of a waiting room full of veterans who also need assistance.

❤️ Our mission isn’t changing. We’re simply changing how we manage our time so we can better serve YOU.

Walk-ins are still a great place to get answers, find resources, and take the first step. And when it’s time to sit down and work through your claim, we’ll make sure you have dedicated time to do just that.

Same commitment. Better process. More meaningful time with every veteran. 🇺🇸

Thank you for your patience, understanding, and for helping us make our office a place where every veteran and family member feels heard, respected, and supported.

🍰🇺🇸 SIX BRANCHES. SIX DESSERTS. ZERO CHANCE EVERYONE AGREES. 😂

It's National Dessert Day, and we're serving up a little friendly interservice rivalry! 🥧

We matched each military branch with a dessert, and we're fully prepared for the complaints, especially from the Marines. 🫡🤣

👇 Did we nail your branch, or are we about to get smoked in the comments?

Sound off below! Just remember, it's all in good fun. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Learning. Connecting. Bringing it Back Home to Brazos County.

Monday and Tuesday, Assistant Veterans Service Officer Diana Mills represented the Brazos County Veteran Services Office at the 18th Annual Texas A&M University System Military-Affiliated Symposium in Frisco, Texas, alongside our partners from the Don & Ellie Knauss Veteran Resource & Support Center at TAMU.

This year’s theme, “Scaling Impact: Practice, Data, Partnerships,” brought together professionals from across Texas and around the country who work with veterans, service members, and military-connected students.

Over two days, Diana attended several concurrent educational sessions covering topics including veteran data and trends, improving services and outcomes, supporting military-affiliated students, and using stronger partnerships to better serve the military-connected community. She also had the opportunity to hear from national organizations and professionals doing innovative work in the veteran space.

Just as valuable were the conversations outside the sessions. The symposium provided an opportunity to network, exchange ideas, learn what other communities are doing successfully, and strengthen connections with professionals serving veterans across Texas and the nation.

For our office, professional development like this isn’t just about attending a conference — it’s about bringing new knowledge, resources, relationships, and ideas back to Brazos County.

We’re grateful for our continued partnership with the Texas A&M Veteran Resource & Support Center and for opportunities to work alongside others who share the same goal: making sure veterans and their families have the support they’ve earned. 🇺🇸

🎉🇺🇸 800 FOLLOWERS — AND THIS MILESTONE BELONGS TO OUR COMMUNITY! 🇺🇸🎉

Every follow, share, comment, and tag helps strengthen the connection between our office and the veterans, families, and neighbors we serve. You help us reach people we may never reach on our own.

Through this page, we share resources and important information, spread the word about local events, recognize important days in our military history, and celebrate the veterans, advocates, organizations, and community members making a difference right here in Brazos County.

800 followers means 800 connections helping those stories and resources travel farther — and more opportunities for the right information to reach the right veteran at the right time.

Thank you for following. Thank you for sharing. Thank you for helping us recognize those who serve our community. And most of all, thank you for helping us look out for one another. ❤️🤍💙

Help us keep growing! Invite a veteran, family member, friend, or neighbor to follow our page.

Here’s to 800 — and to reaching even more veterans together. 🇺🇸

🇺🇸 Service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.

This morning, our Assistant Veterans Service Officer, Diana Mills, attended her Rotary Club of College Station meeting where the guest speaker was Al Davis, Director of the Texas A&M Forest Service.

Director Davis is also a fellow veteran. He served 27 years in the United States Marine Corps, retiring at the rank of Colonel, with a career that included commanding Officer Candidates School.

Today, he continues that commitment to service as the ninth Director of the Texas A&M Forest Service, helping lead an agency responsible for protecting Texas communities, natural resources, and supporting wildfire and disaster response across our state.

We love seeing examples of veterans who continue to serve their communities in new ways after their military careers end. The leadership, experience, and commitment developed through military service continue making an impact throughout Texas.

Thank you, Colonel Davis, for your service to our country — and for continuing to serve the people of Texas. 🇺🇸🌲

🇺🇸 VFW Day | September 29 🇺🇸

Today we recognize the Veterans of Foreign Wars VFW and the generations of veterans who have continued serving their fellow veterans and their communities long after taking off the uniform.

The VFW traces its roots to September 29, 1899, when veterans of the Spanish-American War and Philippine Insurrection came together to advocate for the rights and benefits of those who served. More than a century later, that commitment to veterans, military families and communities continues.

Here in Brazos County, we are fortunate to have two VFW Posts serving our local veteran community:

🇺🇸 VFW Post 4692 in Bryan
🇺🇸 College Station VFW Post #12221

The Brazos County Veteran Service Office appreciates our local VFW members and the work they do to provide camaraderie, advocate for veterans, honor those who served before us, and remain active in our community.

To our local VFW members and VFW members everywhere—thank you for continuing to serve.

Happy VFW Day! 🇺🇸

⭐ Gold Star Mother’s and Family’s Day | September 27 ⭐

Today, we honor the mothers and families who carry the legacy of a loved one who died in service to our nation.

The Gold Star tradition dates back to World War I, when families displayed a blue star for a loved one serving in the military. When a service member died, that blue star was replaced with a gold star—a symbol of sacrifice that continues today.

Behind every Gold Star is a name, a life, a family, and a story that deserves to be remembered.

The Brazos County Veteran Service Office extends our deepest gratitude and respect to our Gold Star Mothers and Gold Star Families. We remember your loved ones, we honor their service, and we recognize the sacrifice your families continue to carry. ⭐🇺🇸

Their service is remembered. Their sacrifice is honored. Their families are never forgotten.
