Well said by our Mayor. This was a very difficult decision, but the right one to keep our City moving forward.

BUDA, TEXAS, SEPTEMBER 16, 2026 - At the September 15, 2026, City Council meeting, the Buda City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2027 Budget totaling $57,281,600 and set the City property tax rate at $0.3895. The median home with a taxable value of $383,550 will pay $1,474.45 in property taxes to the City, compared to $1,378.12 in 2026, an increase of $8.03 per month over the previous year. City of Buda taxes comprise approximately 18% of a resident’s tax bill, and the City has one of the lowest property tax rates of full-service cities in the State of Texas.

Peak fall bird migration season is underway in Central Texas, with activity typically reaching its highest levels from mid-August through October. During this time, thousands of birds pass over our region each night as they travel south for the winter.

The City of Buda is a participant in a pilot Dark Skies program that focuses on identifying opportunities to reduce unnecessary light pollution through education, outreach, and best practices for outdoor lighting.

Excessive or poorly directed artificial light can confuse migrating birds, drawing them off course and increasing the risk of collisions. Small changes, such as using shielded fixtures, choosing warmer-colored bulbs, and turning off unnecessary lights, can make a meaningful difference for wildlife and our community.

As migration season continues, consider switching off outdoor lights when they're not needed and taking a moment to enjoy Buda's night skies. The birds passing overhead will thank you. 🐦🌙

LAYNE'S CHICKEN FINGERS PREPPING NEW DRIVE-THRU IN BUDA

Layne's Chicken Fingers, the rapidly expanding Texas-born chicken chain, is officially bringing its signature tenders and secret sauce to Buda.

State filings reveal plans for a new location at 381 Old San Antonio Road, taking over a former Zaxby's property just off Interstate 35.
The $400,000 renovation project will completely remodel the existing 850-square-foot facility to convert it into a Layne's drive-thru restaurant.

Construction on the site is scheduled to kick off this fall on November 9, 2026, targeting a quick turnaround with completion by early January 2027.

At the September 1 City Council Meeting, Mayor Lee Urbanovsky proudly recognized the City of Buda as a Tourism Friendly Texas Certified Community, as designated by the Office of the Texas Governor's Texas Travel Department.

This designation recognizes Buda’s commitment to supporting tourism, strengthening the local economy, preserving the community’s character, and creating a welcoming experience for visitors.

The certification was pursued with the goal of aligning the designation with the completion of Buda’s Tourism Strategic Plan, which was presented to the Buda City Council on August 4, 2026. Together, the certification and strategic plan demonstrate the City’s continued commitment to cultivating tourism through its historic downtown, community events, outdoor recreation, cultural heritage, local businesses, and family-friendly atmosphere.

Thank you to the Office of the Texas Governor's Texas Travel Department for this designation!

UPDATE 9/25/26: The contractor for the Effluent Force Main Project plans to perform paving work in Stagecoach Park on Tuesday, September 29, and Wednesday, September 30, weather permitting.

Stagecoach Park, including the dog park, is expected to reopen Friday, October 2.

Thank you again for your continued patience during this project.
------------------------------------
UPDATE, 9/10 @ 1:45 pm: The contractor for the effluent force main project is moving more quickly than anticipated through Stagecoach Park. Originally, we had slated a park closure starting on Sept. 21. Because of the pace and in the interest of minimizing the length of the closure, Stagecoach Park and Dog Park will be closed starting on Monday, Sept. 14.

We anticipate the closure to remain in effect for one week and possibly through the weekend of Sept. 19. We will provide updates here and via digital message board at the park entrance. As always, we appreciate your patience as we continue to improve the City's critical infrastructure.
-------------------------------------
UPDATE, 9/2 at 12:40pm:

Stagecoach Park and Dog Park will remain closed until Friday at 5pm. The park will re-open Friday evening and will remain open until Sept. 21 for an additional closure related to the effluent force main project. As always, we appreciate your patience.

_________________________________________________________________

UPDATE, 8/27 at 4:20pm:

After further consideration, we have decided to close Stagecoach Park and Dog Park for the next week to ensure the safety of all patrons. Starting on Friday, Aug. 28, the park will be fully closed to the public.

We will provide an update as soon as we have more information and the specific date we can re-open the park.

We sincerely apologize for any confusion and appreciate your understanding as we evaluate changing conditions.
