In case you missed it, the NYS Department of Labor will be upgrading their unemployment insurance system! The service upgrade period will begin on November 2 and is expected to last 9-12 days.

The upgraded system will introduce real-time tracking of claims and enhanced communication, leading to fewer delays and better customer experience.

During the 9-to-12-day upgrade period, all online and phone-based unemployment insurance services will be temporarily unavailable. Individuals will not be able to file unemployment insurance claims, certify for weekly benefits, or access or update account information. As a result, payments will be delayed.

Last week, and the Oxford Square Block Club broke ground with on a new vision for their neighborhood lot. I was happy to have my staff there in support!

That vision will include an accessible playground, picnic areas, and seating that will make for a more inclusive, inviting space.

We're at for our last stop this year along Hispanic Heritage Restaurant Week, and I had the pleasure of being joined by Deputy Mayor Geno Russi.

Hispanic Heritage Month is coming to a close, which means I'm kicking off another Hispanic Heritage Restaurant Week!

This idea began three years ago when I was trying to find a better way to promote all the incredible Latino eateries across District 149. Since then, I’ve racked up the miles (and the meals) checking out some of our area’s best local spots, all while meeting with leaders and officials within our Latino community here who are doing outstanding work in every field you can think of.

I started this year at , which is truly a hidden gem on Letchworth St. with some of the best Dominican food you’ll find in WNY. I met with Donna Medina, a small business owner who also works with .

Very proud to have been able to secure $50,000 in state funding for new medical and technology equipment at the School-Based Health Center (SBHC) at Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy (BPS 76).

Operated by Kaleida Health and Golisano Children’s Hospital of Buffalo, SBHCs provide students with access to coordinated primary care and mental health services directly within school buildings. By offering healthcare on-site, SBHCs eliminate common barriers like transportation challenges, scheduling conflicts, and difficulties accessing providers, particularly in underserved communities.

At a time when federal healthcare cuts are leaving hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers without coverage and many families are struggling to find a primary care provider, investments like this are more important than ever.

Best part of the funding announcement was getting to see the incredible thank you letters that the students wrote, and getting to read from them firsthand what these services mean to their families!
