Dallas County Emergency Management is in Springfield today participating in Operation Abominable Snow Squall, a regional emergency response exercise.
Today’s exercise brings emergency management and response partners from across Region D together to work through a simulated winter weather disaster. We’ll be making real time decisions involving mass care and sheltering, critical infrastructure, public information, resource shortages, vulnerable populations, and coordination between jurisdictions.
Exercises like this give us the opportunity to work through problems before we face them during a real emergency and to strengthen the relationships and regional partnerships we rely on when local resources are stretched thin.
A great morning of training, coordination, and preparedness for Southwest Missouri.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 12:00 PM Monday through 8:00 PM Friday for our area.

With several consecutive days of high temperatures expected, please take heat safety seriously.

⚠️ Know the warning signs.
Heat exhaustion may cause heavy sweating, dizziness, weakness, nausea, and excessive thirst. Move to a cooler location, loosen clothing, cool the person, and provide water if they are alert and able to drink.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Confusion, loss of consciousness, or other severe symptoms require immediate action. Call 911 and begin rapidly cooling the person while waiting for EMS.
Please plan ahead for the week, stay hydrated, and check on those around you.
