Scenes from the Annual Science Congress in May 1940. The Buffalo Society of Natural Sciences teamed up with local educators and community leaders to host student members of science clubs at the Museum in what was a major regional competitive science forum.

The success of the Science Congress here laid the groundwork for the Western New York Science Congress (WNYSC), which still hosts annual science fairs and research competitions for students in WNY.

These photos were recently preserved and processed by our collections team in partnership with Chicago Albumen Works, thanks to funding from a Historical Access and Innovation Grant awarded to the Museum by the Western New York Library Resources Council - WNYLRC.

Alright, field trippers. What did we learn tonight?
✔ Cow eyeballs are kinda cool.
✔ Butterflies are dodgeball baddies.
✔ Hot dogs have pretty impressive reaction time.
✔ If you want to win a costume contest, create the sickest Toy Box getup complete with lighting.
✔ Don't trust a crash test dummy.
✔ Science Museums aren't just for kids.
✔ The Science Stadium exhibit is AWESOME (ok, well, we already knew that)

Did you know that New York state has some of the highest numbers of mastodon fossil discoveries in the United States, second only to Michigan?

A 13-year-old named Paul Tullar found this mastodon jaw south of Chaffee, N.Y. in 1939! He donated it to the Buffalo Museum of Science and it's still in our collection today.

This photo is one of over 1,200 that our collections team recently processed and preserved in partnership with Chicago Albumen Works, thanks to funding from a Historic Access and Innovation Grant awarded to the Museum by the Western New York Library Resources Council - WNYLRC.
