Another amazing week of fire safety visits!

We had a great time getting out into our local schools and teaching our younger community members about fire safety! From checking out the fire trucks and trying on our gear to going over some important fire safety tips, our goal is to make sure these kids know what to do if an emergency ever happens.

The kids asked great questions, learned some important lessons, and had a little fun along the way!

A big thank you to all the area schools and teachers who welcomed us with their students. We love having the opportunity to connect with our community and help keep these kids safe.

We’re already looking forward to seeing you all again next year!

Today, we get to celebrate an individual milestone!

Chief 2 Mike Brings has officially hit 35 YEARS with the Buffalo Fire Department!

Mike, we are beyond proud of your commitment, dedication, and continued support of our department and our community. Your knowledge and experience are invaluable, especially to the newer firefighters who are, quite literally, younger than the amount of time you’ve been a firefighter.

35 years of answering calls, training, teaching, leading, and being there when our community needs you is no small accomplishment. We’re incredibly lucky to have you and grateful for everything you’ve poured into Buffalo Fire over the years.

Congratulations on 35 years, Chief 2! Here’s to many more!

25 YEARS.

September 11, 2001. A day that changed our country forever.

8:46 AM American Airlines Flight 11 struck the North Tower.
9:03 AM United Airlines Flight 175 struck the South Tower.
9:37 AM American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon.
9:59 AM The South Tower fell.
10:03 AM United Airlines Flight 93 went down in Pennsylvania.
10:28 AM The North Tower fell.

In between those moments, thousands of people made the ultimate sacrifice. 343 firefighters. 23 NYPD officers. 37 Port Authority officers. And countless others who ran toward the danger to help.

Today, 25 years later, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who answered the call, and the families who continue to carry their loss.

We remember their names.
We honor their sacrifice.
We will NEVER forget.

We’re excited to share that FF/EMT Guzman was invited to be part of the Kitchen Fire Prop at the Great Minnesota Get Together for Governor’s Fire Prevention Day!

Fire safety is so important, especially in the kitchen! Kitchen fires are the leading cause of structure fires in Minnesota. We were proud to have Buffalo Fire there representing our department and sharing some great tips and knowledge on kitchen fire safety.

A big thank you for the opportunity to be part of such a great event. We’re always happy to help spread the word and keep our communities safe!

Quick fact for you, fire hoses are made of three layers: the inner rubber hose, a protective sleeve, and a tough canvas outer sleeve.

Each year we partake in an annual "hose testing," which helps us to not only test the durability of the hoses but also ensure the safety of these important tools needed for our job.

Essentially, hoses are tested by hooking them up to a special "hose testing truck" which pumps water and allows us to check for things like leaks and possible splitting/ bulging under pressure. (Fun fact! Buffalo has around TWO MILES of hoses spread across our apparatus and back up storage. How long do you think hose testing takes?!)
Take a peek behind the scenes with a few pictures!

Motor vehicle accidents and EMR training gave our crew a chance to work through airbag lifts, trauma response, vehicle stabilization, and the equipment we rely on when things get serious.

The more familiar we are with our tools and techniques, the better prepared we are to act quickly when seconds matter.

Proud of the Buffalo firefighters and the continued work they put in to stay ready for our community!
