On Saturday, Detective Scott Kuhlmey of the Fire Investigation Unit was awarded the Buffalo Fire Commissioner's Unit Citation for Bravery. The honor is related to Detective Kuhlmey and K9 Clipper's investigation into a residential structure fire in the City of Buffalo on October 18, 2025. An adult female and newborn baby were found dead inside the home. Deputy Kuhlmey's investigation found that ignitable liquids were present at the scene of the fire. A suspect was later indicted on murder and arson charges.

Earlier today, Sheriff Garcia met with Janne Sirén, who will be stepping down as the director of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum later this month. Over the course of the last 13 years, Sirén has led the art museum through a magnificent period of expansion. Sheriff Garcia thanked Sirén for all he has done to advance our area's culture and his role in putting Buffalo's art community on the map.

Earlier today, three members of the Erie County Sheriff's Office were honored by Crime Stoppers WNY for their exemplary performance in service to our community.

Captain Ryan Rogers and Lieutenant Rich O'Neil received the Law Enforcement Achievement Award. On July 29, Captain Rogers and Lieutenant O'Neil were aboard Air 1 searching for a woman and two children on a paddleboard who drifted from the Canadian shoreline and were missing on Lake Erie. Captain Rogers and Lieutenant O'Neil spotted the group just before darkness fell over the lake and directed units to their location. Their heroism was featured by WGRZ-TV.

Senior Detective Adam Imiolo received the Crime Stoppers WNY Board Recognition Award. In addition to his integral role in the Erie County Sheriff's Office Narcotics and Intelligence Unit, Senior Detective Imiolo served as the Law Enforcement Coordinator for Crime Stoppers WNY for approximately four years. He served as the organization's top liaison to each and every law enforcement agency in our region.
