Attention GSD lovers, do we have an amazing dog for you! 😍

3 year old Cliff showed up to CBAS as a stray, but we're pretty sure he had a loving home before that 😞. He's a big guy with a serious game face, and he might play it cool when you first meet. Don't be fooled! Once he decides you're his person, you've got a loyal buddy for life.

Cliff loves fetch and happily trots back to you with the biggest "look what I did!" energy and drops it at your feet, ready for round two. He already knows sit and down (treats help, obviously), but he's ready to learn a whole bag of new tricks. Oh, and that magnificent floofy tail? Unbeatable! 👏

Cliff passed his dog-to-dog assessment, but if you have a dog at home, we'll have them meet. Some shepherds would rather be roommates than playmates, so we want to make sure it's a perfect match.

Cliff's dream home is with someone who knows Shepherds or other big, strong-minded breeds. He'll need regular grooming, plenty of exercise, and steady, confident guidance so he feels like he's nailing his job as your sidekick. He seems to be housebroken, though give him a little time to settle into his new place.

Could Cliff be your new best friend? Visit our website to complete an application, then email 📨 [email protected] to set up a meet!

You know that great aunt who everyone loves because she’s sweet, unbothered, and never makes a fuss? 🧓

Meet Vicky. She's that great aunt who just happens to be approximately the size of a small sofa 😳. For size reference, we paired one of our biggest dogs with one of our littlest CBAS volunteers, Joyce 😂

Vicky is around 7 years old and a BIG girl who’s a little too big for a shelter kennel. We’re looking for a big-dog person who can scoop this 90 pound mastiff mix up and give her a place to call home!

Vicky is a relaxed, gentle companion who coexists with other dogs. Walks with her are a breeze. No pulling, no stress, just a leisurely stroll to the next sniff spot. And she takes treats like a dainty lady!

We don’t know how she is with cats 🐈, but we do know this sweet, oversized girl deserves a comfy place to land. Somebody please look at this face and tell us you’re not already a little bit in love with Vicky ❤️

Have room for this lady? Come meet her at the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter, 380 Oak Street. No appointment needed, we're open 9 AM - 7 PM today!

Meet Crackerjack: He’s named for the Dolly Parton song, although there’s no denying this boy is a SNACK 🍿.

This young boy, about 1 year old, is 41 pounds of pure goodness. His stunning brindle coat glistens in the sun, stands out beautifully among the fall leaves 🍁, and the insides match, too. 💕

At a recent adoption event, Crackerjack was accused of attempting to crawl right into his handler’s skin because he LOVED her so much. 😂

He’s a clingy baby, just the type to notice you’re having an off day and make it his mission to turn things around with a whole lot of affection. 🥹

Crackerjack has shown his loving nature to humans both big and small. 👨👦🏽👧 As always, the whole family, including any resident dogs, must come in for a meet-and-greet.

Crackerjack is looking for a home where his people will help him build confidence, polish his manners, and shower him with all the love he deserves. In return, he’ll undoubtedly give it back to you tenfold. 😍

Come meet him at CBAS anytime during open hours!

Big news, Buffalo! Your dinner orders added up to something truly amazing this year! 🍽️

Thanks to everyone who ordered "The Laura Daniels" plate at Chef's, a total of $5,104 was raised for Buffalo's shelter animals! 🎉

Every dollar of that goes to Friends of the City of Buffalo Animal Shelter and helps fund:

🐾 Critical and preventive veterinary care
🐾 Subsidized adoption rates for senior and special needs animals
🐾 Training for shelter dogs in need
🐾 Foster and hospice care

Who doesn't love a giant check moment?! Thank you to Laura Daniels for inspiring this dish, and to Lou Billittier and the entire Chefs team for your continued support of CBAS! 🥰

Can’t make it today? That’s okay! Guyliner will be just as excited to meet you tomorrow (Wednesday), 9am-7pm 😁

🐈‍⬛ MEET FRITO: THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM? 😻

Frito is 100% tuxedo, 100% mustache, and 1000% personality. A longtime CBAS volunteer favorite, this young sweetheart has sadly been returned twice - but we're hoping the third time is the charm. After some well-earned decompression time in foster with our volunteer Pete, he's ready to find the one who gets him.

His foster Dad describes him as "a cat person's cat", and we think that's exactly right. Frito is an energetic guy and needs someone willing to give him lots of stimulation with play, climbing, and scratching alternatives.

Here's what life with Frito looks like:

🖤 Cuddly on his terms. After some exercise, he may nuzzle up to you, and he has even cuddled through the night. He'll purr when picked up too.

🤍 Zoomies. Late-night zoomie time happens on a nightly basis, so be ready!

🖤 A carrier fan. Strangely, Frito likes cat carriers and will sometimes just hang out in one. We think after so much coming and going, he finds them safe 🥺

🤍 Needs a thoughtful match. In foster, Frito has shown some dominance behavior with his foster sister, but also does enjoy lots of peaceful coexisting time with her. So, we'd love to discuss if your pets could be a match for our special guy!

Frito is a rare find who needs a devoted human willing to put in the time. ❤️ Interested in meeting Frito? Email [email protected] with any questions!

Can't adopt? Please share our boy! We're determined to find the perfect fit for fun-loving Frito 🙏

This is the story of Chuck. And trust us… you want to get to the end.

The first emotion Chuck gave us was sadness.

Like, the kind that takes the wind right out of you.

When Chuck came into the shelter, he was paralyzed from the waist down. He could lift his head when you walked by, but his back legs weren’t working. We didn’t know exactly what happened. Maybe he was hit by a car. Maybe something else. All we knew was that this happy-looking guy was lying in his kennel, unable to use his back end, and it was hard to look at him without feeling absolutely awful 😞

Then came hopeful.

The doctors started him on steroids, and little by little, we started seeing movement. And then came the big question: Chuck couldn’t recover from this while lying in a shelter kennel. He needed someone to take a chance on him.

His foster stepped up without knowing what the future would look like. She just knew Chuck deserved a chance.

And slowly, day by day, Chuck got better. Therapy, patience and lots of TLC… and this guy just kept improving. Today, he is almost as good as new. Honestly, if you met him now, you’d probably have no idea what he’s been through.

And then came obsession 😍

Because how could it not?

Chuck is 7 years old, dog friendly, cat friendly and a people pleaser extraordinaire. He’s been through an obedience class, knows all his basic commands and was basically the class star. Shocking? Not really. Everyone who meets Chuck loves Chuck.

He’s happy-go-lucky, easygoing and ridiculously easy to live with. He’s got that perfect medium-energy thing going on, too. Want to go do something? Chuck is in. Want to hang out all day and do absolutely nothing? Chuck is also very much in.

And he is a 10/10 cuddler.

No dog is perfect, but Chuck is pretty darn close!

His foster took a chance on him when we had no idea how this story was going to end. And somehow, we went from looking into his kennel and feeling completely defeated… to watching this guy walk around like he never got the memo that he was supposed to have a sad story.

Now we just need the final chapter.

The person who meets Chuck and thinks, “Yep. This is my dog.”

If you want to know more about Chuck or think you might be his person, email his foster at [email protected] to ask questions or set up a meet.

We have a feeling you’re going to be pretty obsessed with him, too.

🏈🐶 CBAS GAME DAY PUP: EDDIE 🐶🏈

The Buffalo Bills take the field under the lights tonight against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday Night Football! After a tough week, we're ready to bounce back, and Eddie is ready to help any way he can 💙❤️

Eddie is that middle linebacker; a dog who came to CBAS with all natural, raw talent. It took a little practice, but we've found a few things he loves. "See ball, get ball" describes Eddie in a nutshell 😅. Fetch and zooming around the yard are his favorite plays! He's a well-rounded athlete, too. Eddie walks nicely on leash, knows some basic commands, and has a sweet habit of resting his head in your lap when you sit down for a break 🥹.

Every star needs the spotlight, and Eddie does his best work as a solo act. He prefers to be the only pup on the roster, so he's looking for a home where he can have all the attention (and all the tennis balls) to himself 🌟

At 116 days with us, Eddie is our second longest-term resident and a member of our . Bills Mafia, you know a thing or two about loyalty and never giving up, and Eddie has been patiently waiting for his number to be called. Let's help him score the ultimate win and get him off the shelter bench and into the end zone of his forever home! 🏡

Come meet Eddie at CBAS anytime we're open!

🎶 Mr. JONES and me 🎶 should be driving home tomorrow because this guy is way too cute to miss out on! 🌅🚗

This 2-year-old brindle, heterochromic bombshell with the snout of a Boxer has been on the adoption floor for less than five days, and he’s already found himself approximately 42 love interests. 💕
However, none of them have committed to forever just yet, so we’re hoping someone can help the guy out!

What you’re getting with Mr. Jones is a calm presence. He takes it all in, is in search of a good time and no trouble, and will fall right into your lap and your soul. ❤️

We’re telling our guy what he needs to hear as he waits for his forever family: 🎶 You’ll never be lonely. 🎶

Come meet the man, Mr. Jones, yourself at CBAS!
