October is Italian American Heritage Month!

This month, we celebrate the generations of Italian Americans who have helped shape Western New York through their hard work, traditions, and contributions to our communities.

We are proud to recognize their lasting impact and the rich heritage that continues to be passed down from generation to generation.

What are you thankful for this year? I'm inviting students across the 61st Senate District to share what Thanksgiving means to them through an essay, poem or artwork as part of my Thanksgiving Day Student Showcase!

Today, we were proud to join Kenmore Mercy Hospital in celebrating 75 years of dedicated service to Western New York. Since 1951, Kenmore Mercy has been a cornerstone of our community, providing generations of families with compassionate, quality healthcare.

Congratulations to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers who have built this remarkable legacy.

Governor Hochul continues to show what it means to invest in Western New York. Yesterday, I was proud to join her as she expanded free community college access for New Yorkers looking to build new skills and enter high demand careers and announced $3 million for the Buffalo Irish Center to preserve its history and secure its future.

These are investments that open doors and deliver real results for our region. Thank you, Governor Hochul, for continuing to make Western New York a priority.

Some teachers stay with you long after you leave their classroom. For World Teachers’ Day, I’m thinking about my 8th grade Home and Careers teacher, Roslyn Sellers, who had a tremendous impact on me, and Mrs. Pat LaFalce, a wonderful teacher I’m grateful to know.

Today, I’m thankful for them and for all the teachers across Western New York who make a difference every day. Happy World Teachers’ Day!

A great night in Buffalo celebrating two exciting parts of our community. We started at the DL&W Terminal for the ribbon cutting of the new Skydeck, an incredible new public space overlooking the Buffalo River and downtown.

Later, we joined the Women’s Business Center at Canisius University for SHE BUILDS, celebrating the women entrepreneurs and small business owners helping drive Western New York’s economy. Thank you to Laura Jenkins and the WBC team for all you do to support local entrepreneurs!

It’s always great to be back at my alma mater, Buffalo State. This week, I joined the Social Work Department for a panel with students on policy advocacy, civic engagement and the importance of getting involved at the local level.

We talked about public service, elections and how students can use their voices to make a difference right here in their communities.

Thank you to Buffalo State for having me back and for a great conversation.
