PENDER COUNTY DSS 2ND ANNUAL FOOD DRIVE!

Let’s come together to help our neighbors! The Pender County DSS Food Drive is happening October 12 – November 13, 2026, and every donation makes a difference. 💙

All donations will support Pender County food pantries and help local families facing food insecurity.

🥫 Most Needed Items:
-Canned soups and stews
-Canned vegetables and fruit
-Pasta and rice
-Canned proteins
-Peanut butter

📍 Drop-Off Locations:
Hampstead & Burgaw Libraries:
Monday–Friday, 10 AM–6 PM; Saturday, 10 AM–2 PM
Pender Health and Human Services:
Monday–Friday, 8 AM–5 PM
Hampstead Annex:
Monday–Friday, 9 AM–4 PM

🍂 Falls Prevention Awareness Week: A Quick Review 🍂

This week, we’ve shared 6 simple steps you can take to help reduce your risk of falling:

🏃‍♀️ Stay active - find a balance and exercise program that works for you.
🩺 Talk to your health care provider - discuss falls, balance concerns, and ways to stay safe.
💊 Review your medications - regularly talk with your doctor or pharmacist about your medications and possible side effects.
👀👂 Get your vision and hearing checked - regular checkups can help you stay aware of your surroundings and maintain good balance.
🏠 Keep your home safe - remove clutter, improve lighting, and look for things that could cause a trip or fall.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Talk with family and friends - share your concerns and talk about ways you can work together to prevent falls.

💙 Falls can happen, but there are steps we can take to help prevent them. Take what you’ve learned this week and share it with a family member or friend!
