Hello MPA!

On behalf of the Misdemeanor Probation Association (MPA), we are pleased to invite you to our Annual Conference, which will be held April 26-28, 2027 at the Marcus Whitman Hotel, Walla Walla.

This yearโ€™s conference offers an excellent opportunity to connect with colleagues, share insights, and explore innovative strategies to strengthen our work in misdemeanor probation.

Although conference registration is not open yet, we encourage you to take advantage of early bird pricing. On the MPA website, you will be able to register and even apply for a scholarship (if needed); scholarship recipients will be announced in March 2027.

๐Ÿ’™September Diversity & Inclusion | MPA๐Ÿ’™

This September, MPA continues to recognize the value that diversity, inclusion, and different lived experiences bring to our workplaces and communities.

Every individual brings unique perspectives, backgrounds, experiences, and strengths. When we create environments where people feel respected, valued, and included, we strengthen our teams and better serve the communities in which we work.

As professionals in community corrections, we have an opportunity to lead by exampleโ€”by listening, learning from one another, challenging barriers, and treating every individual with dignity and respect.

This month, and throughout the year, letโ€™s continue building workplaces and communities where everyone has a sense of belonging and an opportunity to contribute.

MPA is pleased to congratulate Tacoma Municipal Court Probation for being selected to receive a Continuing Education Scholarship to support their participation in Ohio Risk Assessment System (ORAS) training. ORAS is a structured risk and needs assessment system that assists justice professionals in identifying criminogenic risk factors, assessing individual needs, and informing case planning and supervision. Training in the use of ORAS supports the consistent and informed application of risk assessment practices within the field of probation. MPA is proud to support Tacoma Municipal Courtโ€™s continued professional development and commitment to evidence-informed practices that strengthen probation services throughout our state.

MPA Members: Please keep an eye out for future Continuing Education Scholarship opportunities. MPA offers scholarships of up to $600 toward registration costs for qualifying educational and training programs, including risk assessment training, facilitator training, state and national professional conferences, and other educational opportunities that benefit the field of probation. These opportunities are offered annually, so we encourage members to watch for future announcements and take advantage of professional development opportunities available through MPA.

Congratulations Tacoma Municipal Court, and thank you for your continued commitment to professional development.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ September 11, 2001 | We Remember ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Today, MPA honors the lives lost and the families, friends, and communities forever changed by the events of September 11, 2001.

We remember the courage and sacrifice of the first responders, the service members who answered the call, and the countless individuals who came together to support one another in the days and years that followed.

As professionals committed to public safety and strengthening our communities, we reflect on the importance of service, compassion, and unity.

May we never forget the lives lost, the sacrifices made, and the enduring spirit of those who stood together during one of our nationโ€™s darkest days.

๐Ÿ’œ July is Disability Pride Month ๐Ÿ’œ

This month, MPA recognizes and celebrates the achievements, contributions, and experiences of people with disabilities.

Disability Pride Month is an opportunity to promote awareness, challenge misconceptions, celebrate diversity, and recognize the importance of inclusion and accessibility in our communities and workplaces.

As we work to strengthen our profession and the communities we serve, we are reminded that true inclusion means creating environments where everyone is respected, valued, and able to participate fully.

Letโ€™s continue to learn, listen, advocate, and work toward a more inclusive and accessible future for all. ๐Ÿ’œ
