Good behavior deserves a little extra fun! 😎🚒

We love a good time, so joining Sunnyside Elementary’s 3rd graders for recess as a reward for their excellent behavior was a win for us too!

Thanks for inviting us, Sunnyside! But fair warning, next time we WILL dominate these precious children at Gaga Ball. Now that we actually know the rules and how to play, we will show no mercy. 😏😂

Now listen, we may be biased but getting to tear apart a car is perhaps a little more exciting than your average school assignment. 👀🚒 But that's exactly the kind of hands-on learning Burlington High School students get to experience through their Public Safety classes!

For several years, BFD has partnered with BHS to introduce students to the world of emergency services. Last week Firefighter Skinner continued that tradition by helping the Advanced Public Safety students put their vehicle extrication skills to the test!

And while getting to use the equipment is extremely cool (of course 💅🏼), the bigger picture is even better! These experiences introduce students to potential careers, we get to build connections with our local youth, and hopefully we inspire a few to be future first responders along the way!

A HUGE thank you to BHS for continuing this partnership and giving students opportunities that extend beyond the classroom! ❤️🖤

If you’ve been outside today you know it’s nice and CRISP out! If you’re not wearing flannel or a sweater your grandma knitted you at some point this weekend you are simply doing life wrong. 🥶

But this weather hit at the perfect time for FUN FACT FRIDAY!!!! If you’re already planning your first bonfire of the season, make sure you know how to do it safely. 🔥 If you have a little fire mishap and we have to respond, your friends might start roasting you and not s’mores. 🤭

Hey, remember that incredibly fun event we had back in July called the Fire & Splash Summer Bash?! 🔥💦 And remember how everyone was all like, “Oooooo, this is so cool, you guys have to do this again!”

WELL GUESS WHAT?! WE ARE BRINGING IT BACK. 👏🏼 And just so everyone knows, we're already planning to make next year's event even bigger and better. 💅🏼

This is why we couldn’t be more excited that our friends at The Paddlewheel Lounge are once again hosting Co****le for a Cause this Saturday! Proceeds from the tournament will go straight to the 2nd Annual Fire & Splash Summer Bash!

We can't thank The Paddlewheel Lounge and all the other participating businesses enough for supporting us and helping make this possible. ❤️

🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026
October 4–10

This year, the Burlington Fire Department joins communities across the country in recognizing Fire Prevention Week with the theme:

⚡🔋 “Charge into Fire Safety: Safe Charging is a Superpower™”

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day—from cell phones and tablets to e-bikes, scooters, power tools and other rechargeable products. When damaged, improperly used or incorrectly charged, these batteries can create serious fire hazards.

This week, take a moment to charge safely:

🔌 Use the charger designed for your device.
🔋 Follow the manufacturer’s charging instructions.
⚡ Use products that are listed by a qualified testing laboratory.
🚫 Never charge damaged or swollen batteries.
🏠 Avoid charging devices under pillows, on beds or in areas where heat can build up.
👀 Don’t ignore signs of overheating, unusual odors, swelling or damage.

Fire prevention is more than a week—it’s a responsibility we share every day.

⚡ Charge smart. Charge safe. Make fire prevention a priority.
