I had a wonderful time yesterday visiting Mattahunt Elementary School, a Boston Community Hub School in Mattapan. As a Community Hub School, Mattahunt has expanded resources for English Learners, increased student enrollment and attendance, and built community partnerships with local organizations, including Success Mentor, City Year, and Stop & Shop. The school also launched a food pantry to support school families.

Thank you to , , , Principal Green, and the team for inviting my colleagues and me to visit and learn more about the great work happening at Mattahunt!

It was great to welcome the Mass. School Building Authority ("MSBA") to Burlington High School (Massachusetts) last week for a deep dive into the reasons behind Burlington's application to participate in the funding of a new high school. Joining me in the discussion were MSBA's CEO Jim Macdonald, Jennifer Gonzales, Mike McGurl and Matt Donovan, along with Burlington Superintendent Dr. Eric Conti, and School Committee Chair Katherine Bond. The good news is there were 34 applications this year, which is not as many as some past years, when Burlington was not successful. The Administration expects to invite about 15.

It's time to take a stand against the federal government's harmful proposal to weaken Head Start programs. Head Start is a federal program that supports our children's access to preschool and early education. As House chair of the Joint Committee on Education, I proudly stood with with Governor Maura Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, Congresswoman Katherine Clark, Secretary Stephen Zrike, and my colleagues in the Legislature Representatives Steven Ultrino, Kate Lipper-Garabedian, and Paul Donato in opposing any proposed cuts to the program. We know what’s at stake and we won’t stand by while these critical programs are put at risk.

Great visit to the Literacy Launch Institute this morning in Medford! These institutes train educators with free, high-quality, evidence-based early literacy instruction. Their work will be instrumental in implementing our newly passed early literacy law, helping ensure every student builds strong reading skills through evidence-based, phonics-focused instruction.

Thank you to Massachusetts Department of Elementary & Secondary Education, HILL for Literacy, RMC Research Corporation, the Rennie Center for Education Research & Policy, and the Center for Teacher Education and Research at Westfield State University for hosting.
