As some of you may have heard at last nights Township Trustee meeting they have appointed Caitlyn Ramsey as Fire Chief.

Caitlyn has been on the department officially since she started as a cadet in November of 2008. After graduating High School she went on to obtain her fire and EMS certifications. Since then she has moved her way through the ranks at the department serving as a Firefighter/EMT, Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant and most recently Interim Chief. She has been a resident of Troy for practically her whole life. She attended elementary school in Troy before it was closed and finished school at Berkshire JR/SR High. She still resides in Troy with her husband and daughter.

We are excited to see her in this role after watching her grow at this department. Please help us welcome and congratulate her!

Last night members of our department were out in the township practicing drafting out of dry hydrants. With the influx of new members we have hired recently it is important for us to so them how to draft out of different water sources as we do not have regular fire hydrants around our town besides in the Great Lakes Cheese Parkway. It’s common for us to use dry hydrants, lakes, ponds and even rivers as a water source to fight fire in our county.

There are Leaders, Heroes, and Legends, Chief Reed was all three. We were lucky enough to Celebrate his retirement and unbelievable devotion to the Middlefield Fire Department for nearly 40 years just last week.

Today we mourn his loss. We are forever grateful for what Chief Reed represents! He was a proud and faithful leader who cared so deeply for the Men and Women of The Middlefield Fire Department and the people of his community. A proud U.S. Navy Veteran, and a prouder Father, Grandfather and Chief.

Chief Reed, your legacy will live on forever. We will take it from here boss!

This morning some of our members had the opportunity to attend an extrication training with Parkman Township Fire Department and members of Middlefield Fire Department. Trainings like this lets our members work together with the neighboring agencies and get to know one another while furthering education and skills. We are thankful for opportunities like these when we get them.

For immediate release. Our thoughts go out to all families that were affected by the crash this morning.
