Butte-Silver Bow Media Release

The suspect who was arrested in the incident on Reynolds Street is Keith Gallagher, age 41, of Butte.

The barricaded subject incident on Reynolds Street began early this morning when the suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the driver of a garbage truck in the alley near the residence.

After a brief investigation, it was determined that Gallagher was the suspect.

An arrest warrant for Gallagher and a search warrant for the residence at 2011 Reynolds were obtained.

Butte SWAT, Patrol, and negotiators responded to the residence at 2011 Reynolds.

Efforts were made to contact Gallagher by phone as well as via bullhorn from outside of the residence.

There was no response from inside the residence. A door to the residence as well as some windows were breached. Drones were inserted into the residence to see if Gallagher could be located. Gallagher was not located.

Butte SWAT then conducted a search of the residence where Gallagher was located, hiding in the basement. Gallagher was taken into custody by SWAT team members. He was transported to the Butte Detention Center.

Butte Detectives remain on scene and are conducting a thorough search of the residence.

Gallagher is incarcerated and is charged with assault with a weapon and violation of a protective order.

Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement is grateful for the assistance of the Butte Fire Rescue, A-1 Ambulance, and the Montana Highway Patrol in bringing this situation to a safe conclusion.

NOTE: The suspect has no relationship to the current Chief Executive, J.P. Gallagher.

Thank you,
Sheriff Ed Lester
