Byron Fire Protection District OFFICIAL Page of the Byron Fire Protection District, Byron, IL The Byron Fire District was formed in 1956.

The District covers 55 square miles and serves a population of about 11,500 people, which includes the city limits of Byron. A Fire Protection Class of four (4) in the City and ten (10) in the rural area served by the District makes for the lowest fire insurance rates in Ogle County, and one of the lowest in Northern Illinois.

CONFERENCE: We are attending the Illinois Fire Chiefs Conference this week, attending workshops, checking out new equipment and networking with our peers. Yesterday, we had the opportunity to meet the founder of Rescue RD, Megan. Rescue RD provides Nutrition education for the fire service by understanding the strain put on the body and overcoming it with proper nutrition. We’ve recently started utilizing Rescue RD to provide this education, in an effort to protect our members and ensure they have the tools to be highly successful on the fireground. As the fire service continues to change and evolve, we look forward to our continued partnership with Rescue RD.

SURPRISE!!! Today’s shift had an unannounced training come at them, subject trapped in a grain auger. The training offered a complex extrication, giving us an opportunity to step outside of the comfort zone. Great job by the members!!!

NEW BATTALION CHIEF: Today we welcome the newest member of our team, Shaun Branney!!! Shaun comes to us with over 18 years of fire service experience and will be taking over as the districts Training Officer as we plan for an upcoming retirement. We are thrilled to have him and excited to see what the future holds.
