Fall in Michigan is the only season where you can use both the air conditioning and the heat in your car on the exact same day, and somehow neither setting feels wrong.
Every Michigander knows this routine. You leave for work in the morning, and the car feels like it spent the night inside a refrigerator. Your hands are cold, the steering wheel is freezing, and you're cranking the heat before you've even backed out of the driveway.
Maybe you turn on the defroster, too, because the windshield has decided to join the morning struggle. You're bundled up in a sweatshirt, wondering if it's already time to dig out the winter coat.
Then something magical happens while you're sitting at work. Michigan apparently changes its mind about the entire season.
By the time you clock out, the sun has been shining, your car has turned into a greenhouse, and that same sweatshirt you desperately needed eight hours earlier suddenly feels like a terrible decision.
Now you're blasting the A/C, rolling down the windows, and wondering how the same state can deliver two completely different seasons between breakfast and dinner.
And the funniest part? Nobody from Michigan even questions it anymore.
We just accept that October means scraping condensation off the windshield in the morning and reaching for sunglasses in the afternoon. The jacket goes on, the jacket comes off, and the temperature k**b gets more exercise than the turn signal.
People from warmer states might think we're exaggerating when we describe Michigan weather. But anyone who's driven to work with the heat blasting and driven home with the A/C running knows exactly what we're talking about.
In Michigan, fall isn't one season. It's a daily negotiation between summer and winter, and your car's climate controls are caught in the middle.
