🚫🦟Bugs Be GONE!🦟🚫

Tired of pesky mosquito bites in your backyard? Here are some buzzzz-worthy tips to help keep your home bug-free!

1. Eliminate or treat all sources of standing water that can be a breeding ground for biting mosquitoes. These include flooded fields, birdbaths, wading & swimming pools not in use, old tires, and clogged gutters.

Remember, if it holds water for 7 days, it can produce mosquitoes. Resources can be found here - https://www.2cmad.org/resources/

2. Wear repellents while outdoors at dusk and dawn when mosquitoes are at their most active. The best mosquito repellents contain DEET, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus, Picaridin or 2-undecanone, making sure to follow the directions on the container.

3. Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants when in mosquito-infested areas.

4. Make sure all screen doors and windows are in good repair and fit tightly.

5. Vaccinate horses for West Nile virus, Western Equine Encephalitis, and other diseases.

6. Use EPA registered residual insect sprays on horses, making sure to follow the directions on the container.

7. Have your livestock watering troughs stocked with mosquitofish for free by submitting a service request to CCMAD.

8. Notify the District at 208-461-8633 if you have a site that is too large to be eliminated so it can be properly treated.

As a celebration of freedom, culture, and progress, Juneteenth commemorates the emancipation of enslaved African Americans, marking the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation—more than two years after it was initially issued.

As the official end to slavery in the United States, this post-emancipation period become known as Reconstruction (1865-1877), ushering in new era of hope and uncertainty for our great country. 🇺🇸 🗽

In observance of Juneteenth, please note that Canyon County offices and the Canyon County Courthouse will be closed on Friday, June 19th.

Regular business hours will resume on Monday, June 22nd.

Yesterday, we were joined by community leaders, local law-enforcement partners, and others for the official ribbon-cutting of the new Canyon County Sheriff’s Office.

🫡🔥Stay Firewise This Summer 🔥🫡

As temps continue to rise, so does the risk of sudden wildfires.

Whether you’re camping, glamping, or setting out on a scenic day-hike, here are some key tips to keep you safe, alert, and firewise this summer. 🏕️⛰️🎒

1. Build your campfire in an open location - Always select a flat, open location away from flammable materials like logs, brush or decaying leaves & needles when creating your campfire. 🪵🔥

2. Douse your campfire until it’s cold – When putting out your campfire, be sure to douse the fire with at least one bucket of water, stir it, then add another bucket to be on the safe side. 🪣🔥

3. Keep vehicles off dry grass - Your car or truck’s exhaust can reach temperatures of 1,000+ degrees, so park responsibly. This happens more than you think! 🛻🌡️

4. Keep sparks away from dry vegetation – When picking the spots for your tent and campfire, be sure to create clearings where all flammables have been removed. 🏕️

5. Check weather and drought conditions - Avoid any activities that involve fire or sparks when it’s hot, dry, and windy. It’s better to be safe than sorry, especially if you’re in an area that might fuel a wildfire faster. 🌬️☀️
