When Sand Hollow Fire Department started in October 2015, the BLM station at Exit 13 was exactly what we needed. It had a roof, some walls, and enough room to park a few fire trucks. Details like bathrooms, running water, and actual ownership were considered minor inconveniences. For more than ten years, that little station has served us well as we've provided emergency response throughout our Fire District and assisted our neighbors when they called for help.
We have repeatedly asked the BLM if we could buy our station, and they continue to say no. (Don't worry, we're not going to stop asking.) So, we did a thing. We asked the neighbors if we could buy some dirt. And they said YES. So, we bought some dirt.
The next chapter of Sand Hollow Fire Department starts with a piece of ground and a vision. A vision for a fire station that can support our firefighters, protect our apparatus, and serve the residents of Sand Hollow for the next ten years and beyond.
Over ten years ago, we built a fire department with a borrowed station, a lot of determination and volunteer firefighters. Today, we're building the future, one step at a time. 🚒🔥
