It was humbling to visit the battlefield of the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, the most costly battle in American military history. America and its Allies paid an incredible price between September 26-November 11, 1918, to help bring World War I to an end. Our visit to Suresnes American Cemetery on Veterans Day provided another opportunity to honor the immense sacrifice of so many Americans a century ago.

This month, we celebrate those Native Americans that served or are serving in the U.S. Army. Native Americans have a proud history of military service. They are well known as the “code talkers” who helped American forces communicate securely during both World Wars, playing a key role in the American military victories at the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in and several major battles in the Pacific theater during WWII.

I had a great visit to Picatinny Arsenal alongside U.S. Congressman and Chairman of the House Appropriations Committee Rodney Frelinghuysen and Program Executive Officer (PEO) Ammunition and the Commanding General, Brig. Gen. Abramson, yesterday to view Armament Research, Development and Engineering Center (ARDEC)'s U.S. Army modernization and soldier lethality efforts.
Their commitment to producing the best technology and equipment helps ensure we continue to deploy the most lethal force ever seen on the battlefield.
