Our September 2026 Monthly Report is now available.
This one-page report provides a quick snapshot of shelter activity for the month and includes September 2025 statistics for comparison purposes.
A few highlights from September:
• 753 animals entered our care. (That’s about 25 pets per day!)
• 477 pets were adopted.
• 77 lost pets were reunited with their families.
• 59 animals were transferred to rescue partners.
• 286 animals went into foster care.
Our team also completed 454 veterinary exams, 414 general surgeries, 804 vaccinations, 63 TNR surgeries for community cats, and responded to 883 community calls for help, including welfare checks, rabies quarantines, cruelty investigations, nuisance complaints, aggressive dog calls, deceased animal pickups, and requests for public assistance.
Please note that this is just one page of stats. It does not fully capture the immense scope of what happens each month: the investigations, the review of potential abuse and neglect, the extensive veterinary care, foster coordination, reunification efforts, volunteer support, conversations with families, adoption counseling, and the daily work of caring for 300+ animals many of whom have complex medical, behavioral, and emotional needs. And all of this is done in a 40+ year-old facility that was not designed for modern sheltering.
We also know humane euthanasia is a topic that can sometimes dominate the narrative. These decisions are difficult, complex, emotional, and sometimes misunderstood. If you have questions, please reach out to us as we don’t always see questions posted as social media comments. Call (805) 388-4341 or email [email protected] with the subject line “Stats.”
All statistics, past and present, are available at https://animalservices.venturacounty.gov/statistics.
Thank you for your continued support!

P.S. Monthly reports are generally posted at the end of the following month, as it takes several weeks to verify and compile the data.
