Twenty-five years later, we remember 9/11, the lives that were lost, and the lives that were forever changed by the terrorist attacks on our country that morning.

We remember the 2,977 people who were taken from their families, friends, and communities. The people who went to work, boarded airplanes, and simply began an ordinary day that would become anything but ordinary.

We honor the 441 first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on 9/11, and our brothers and sisters who have died in the years since due to illnesses and injuries related to 9/11. The horrific scenes they saw unfolding that morning didn’t stop them from entering the towers, climbing the stairs, and putting the lives of others before their own.

We pay tribute to the 9-1-1 professionals who answered the calls that morning. They listened to the pleas for help from terrified callers, while consoling and talking them through impossible situations. They gathered critical information, dispatched help, and remained at their posts as an unprecedented attack unfolded in their city. They may not have been standing at Ground Zero, but they were an integral part of the response and they carry the voices of that day with them.

September 11 was one day. Its consequences have lasted 25 years and counting.

We will never forget.
