Earlier today, I learned that Chief George Bacorn of the Denton Police Department passed away following a motor vehicle collision.

Chief Bacorn served as Chief for 36 years, as well as acting as the head of the MML Chiefs and Sheriffs Association this year. He embodied the meaning of serving others and dedicated his life to keeping communities safe for everyone. Denton, Caroline County, and all of Maryland is a better place because of his courage and public service.

I have ordered the Maryland Flag lowered to half-staff and ask all of Maryland to join Dawn and I in praying for his family, the entire Denton Police Department, law enforcement colleagues, and community.

Last night, Democrats won a Michigan State Senate special election in a MASSIVE 18-point overperformance.

America is ready for change, and they’re making that crystal clear at the ballot box.

This week, the Supreme Court gutted the Voting Rights Act.

In these dark times for our country, the words of the late Rep. John Lewis should inspire all of us: “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”

For John Lewis, for every American whose vote is under attack, for our children and the democracy they will inherit: Our fight continues.

The day before the Supreme Court’s disastrous decision to gut the Voting Rights Act of 1965, I signed into law the Maryland Voting Rights Act of 2026.

It bans election systems that weaken the voting power of protected groups. It does what Washington and the Court refuse to do and keeps every vote safe and secure.

We are not waiting for others to do the right thing. We are rising to meet the moment and protecting the right to vote in the state of Maryland.

Great to see Eastern Shore candidate Councilman Josh Hastings in one of Governor Wes Moore's first endorsement announcements.

This endorsement speaks to the strength of leadership coming out of our region and the growing recognition that the Shore deserves a seat at the table in shaping Maryland’s future.

Eight Democratic candidates will get a preprimary boost Tuesday from Gov. Wes Moore (D), amid a push by the state Democratic Party to compete in districts across the state, including some of the reddest districts.
