📞🚴 GFNY MARYLAND CAMBRIDGE – RACE DAY REMINDER

Tomorrow, Sunday, October 4, the GFNY Maryland Cambridge cycling race will take place in Cambridge and throughout portions of Dorchester County. The race begins at 7:30 a.m. in downtown Cambridge, with the course scheduled to remain active until approximately 2:00 p.m.

Cyclists will travel along a course that extends from Cambridge through rural portions of the county, including areas around Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge and Taylors Island, before returning to Cambridge. The race includes both a medium and long course, with long-course riders completing an additional loop.

Motorists should expect increased bicycle traffic, temporary delays, and traffic control at several intersections throughout the morning and early afternoon. Law enforcement will be positioned along portions of the route to assist with the safe movement of cyclists and vehicle traffic.

Please plan ahead, allow extra travel time, reduce your speed, and remain alert for cyclists when traveling in the area. Some roadways along the course are narrow and will have bicycle and vehicle traffic using the same roadway.

As always, call 9-1-1 for emergencies only.

🚨 IRONMAN MARYLAND – TRAFFIC IMPACT INFORMATION 🚨

IRONMAN Maryland returns to Cambridge and Dorchester County this Saturday, September 19, 2026.

Throughout the day, approximately 2,000 athletes will be participating in the swim, bike, and run portions of the event, resulting in temporary road closures, traffic delays, detours, and increased pedestrian and bicycle traffic throughout Cambridge and Dorchester County.

Some traffic impacts will begin as early as 6:30 a.m. Saturday and continue into late Saturday night/early Sunday morning.

If you will be traveling in or around Cambridge or along the race course, please:

Plan ahead and allow additional travel time
- Use alternate routes when possible
- Watch carefully for cyclists, runners, volunteers, and traffic-control personnel
- Follow all posted detours and directions from law enforcement and race personnel
- Review the attached official traffic-impact map before traveling

📍 Please remember: 9-1-1 should only be used for emergencies. Road closures, traffic delays, and detour information related to the race are not emergencies. Reviewing the traffic-impact information in advance will help keep 9-1-1 lines available for those who need immediate police, fire, or EMS assistance.

Our Emergency Communications Specialists will be working throughout the event alongside law enforcement, fire, EMS, emergency management, and race personnel to help coordinate public safety operations across Dorchester County.
