A small museum inside the lighthouse is open 9:30am-5pm daily May 1-Oct. 31. www.choptankriverlighthouse.org Completed in 2012, this is a replica of the Choptank River Lighthouse that guided ships in the Choptank River until 1964, when it was dismantled by the U.S. It served as an unforgettable icon to many—for generations of watermen, for visitors who came by steamboat, for sailors in regattas. Today the replica has become a new icon for the city of Cambridge and all of Dorchester County, Maryland.

How Can an Island Nearly Washed Away Re-Emerge from the Chesapeake Bay? Join representatives from the Maryland Port Administration and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on October 7 at 5:30 p.m. at the Cambridge Yacht Club to hear how the lost islands will return—and how their renewal will benefit wildlife, waterways, and Eastern Shore communities for generations to come. 🚩Go to www.cambridgeyachtclub.com to sign-up or see link in comments below.

James and Barren islands were landmarks of life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. As erosion gradually claimed them, these cherished places nearly disappeared beneath the Bay. Now, dredged material from Maryland’s shipping channels is helping renew the islands—and the habitats they support. Following decades of scientific study and technical analysis of more than 105 disappearing Chesapeake Bay islands, James and Barren islands were selected for restoration based on their engineering feasibility, cost-effectiveness, ecosystem benefits, and potential impacts on wildlife and neighboring communities.

Ship Watcher Update | Back on the Bay -- Bound for Cambridge!

After an amazing weekend in Fells Point hosting our third annual Sailabration Festival, PRIDE II is now underway & beginning her journey to Maryland's Eastern Shore & the historic waterfront City of Cambridge.

The ship will be docked at the foot of High Street at Long Warf Park September 30 through October 5. While in Cambridge we are excited to be collaborating with the Richardson Maritime Museum, Blacks of the Chesapeake, Alpha Genesis CDC, & Dorchester County Public Schools. Tip of the hat to the City of Cambridge & Dockmaster for making our visit possible. We are also offering FREE deck tours & ticketed sails during our port of call visit.

We’re excited to visit Cambridge & celebrate the region’s rich maritime heritage, from generations of shipbuilders & watermen to the nearby sites that tell the story of the Chesapeake during the War of 1812. It’s a great gateway to a part of the Bay where maritime history is still very much a part of the community.

REMEMBERING LAUNCH DAY!
It was eight years ago this week that a big “Lighthouse Launch” event was held at Long Wharf to mark the start of construction on our Lighthouse. That day marked the culmination of many years of effort by many, many dedicated people in our community—our thanks to everyone who pitched in along the way to get the ball rolling! Shown here are Jackie Noller and the late Rufus Todd firing up a big crowd gathered on the dock!
