Survival of the Fittest… or Survival of the Selfless? 🚨

Today, our 8th-grade English 1 Honors students put their critical thinking, communication, and decision-making skills to the test during The Shelter, an immersive survival simulation!

Faced with limited resources—including food, power, and rescue—students worked together to make difficult decisions, defend their choices, and consider the role of empathy in survival. Their experience connects directly to the upcoming nonfiction article “Is Survival Selfish?”, which challenges readers to think deeply about what it means to survive.

Sometimes, the best learning happens when students get to experience the questions rather than simply answer them! 🦅📚

Government came to life for our 8th graders today with a visit from Mayor Sheheen! As students have been learning about government, Mrs. Spolski arranged for him to speak about what it’s like to serve as mayor and the responsibilities that come with leading a city. Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and connect their classroom learning to local government.

Thank you, Mayor Sheheen, for taking the time to visit, share your experiences, and help our students better understand how government works in their own community!

Dr. DuRant turned the names of all students who logged the 140 or more minutes and should receive vouchers around 11/13.

There's still time to log minutes to earn 2 vouchers to a USC Men's Basketball game!
