Jamie Homkey was a fellow firefighter and a great man. Ten years later, the pain of losing him is still with us, and he will never be forgotten.

Please slow down, stay alert, and move over for those working along the roadside. Behind every uniform is a person with a family waiting for them to come home.

Honor Jamie’s memory by helping protect others. Please move over so another family doesn’t have to feel the pain we have carried for the past 10 years. ❤️

🚒🔥 Fire Prevention Week: Building Relationships, One Smile at a Time! ❤️

As we reflect on last week's Fire Prevention Week, we want to extend a heartfelt THANK YOU to Canajoharie Central School District for welcoming the Canajoharie Volunteer Fire Department into your classrooms!

We always enjoy spending time with the kiddos, teaching them important fire safety lessons and helping them understand how to stay safe in an emergency.

But our visits are about so much more than fire prevention. ❤️

They're about building trust, creating connections, and forming relationships with the children in our community. We want them to recognize our firefighters as friendly, familiar faces so that if an emergency ever happens, they know we're there to help, not someone to fear.

Behind every helmet and set of turnout gear is a neighbor, a friend, and someone who cares deeply about keeping them safe.

Thank you to the students, teachers, and staff for making our visits so special. We look forward to continuing this wonderful tradition!

🚒 Your neighbors. Your firefighters. Here for you when you need us most. ❤️

On behalf of Sheriff Jeffery T. Smith and the members of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Emergency Services Division, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fellow firefighters of George King, former Montgomery County Fire Coordinator, who passed away this week.

George served with the Fort Hunter and Tribes Hill fire departments and was a longtime State Fire Instructor for Montgomery County. He taught several of our current fire service leaders, leaving a lasting impact through the knowledge and experience he shared.

We are grateful for his dedication to our community. His legacy lives on in the firefighters he trained and the people they continue to serve.

Please keep George’s family and his fire service family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

If you suspect a chimney fire, get outside and call 9-1-1.
