๐Ÿšจ Itโ€™s Banned Books Week! ๐Ÿšจ

This week, weโ€™re highlighting the importance of the freedom to read and the books that have faced challenges and bans across the country.

๐Ÿ“š The Most Challenged Books of 2025

The American Library Association tracked 4,235 unique titles challenged or banned in 2025 -- the second-highest number ever recorded.

Among the books most frequently targeted were:

๐Ÿ“– Sold โ€” Patricia McCormick
๐Ÿ“– The Perks of Being a Wallflower โ€” Stephen Chbosky
๐Ÿ“– Gender Q***r โ€” Maia Kobabe
๐Ÿ“– Empire of Storms โ€” Sarah J. Maas
๐Ÿ“– Last Night at the Telegraph Club โ€” Malinda Lo
๐Ÿ“– Tricks โ€” Ellen Hopkins
๐Ÿ“– A Court of Thorns and Roses โ€” Sarah J. Maas
๐Ÿ“– A Clockwork Orange โ€” Anthony Burgess
๐Ÿ“– Identical โ€” Ellen Hopkins
๐Ÿ“– Looking for Alaska โ€” John Green
๐Ÿ“– Storm and Fury โ€” Jennifer L. Armentrout

The most commonly cited reasons included LGBTQIA+ representation, topics of race and social justice, and claims of inappropriate content. ALA reports that 92% of book challenges in 2025 were initiated by pressure groups, government officials, and decision-makers.

๐Ÿ“š Libraries believe in the freedom to read. Every reader deserves access to books, ideas, and stories that help them learn, explore, and understand the world.
