Weekly Training: lift Air Bags, Stabilization & Vehicle Extrication
This week, our members trained on using lift air bags and vehicle stabilization techniques to safely lift a vehicle. We also continued practicing different methods of vehicle extrication to improve our skills and readiness for emergencies.
Rescue air bags are powerful tools that use air to lift heavy loads in a controlled manner. They can help create additional space during a rescue, allowing firefighters to access trapped patients. Proper placement, stabilization, and coordinated teamwork are critical to using these tools safely and effectively.
Vehicle stabilization is an essential part of any extrication. Before lifting or removing parts of a vehicle, firefighters must work to prevent unwanted movement that could endanger both the patient and rescuers.
We train on these techniques because when someone is trapped in a vehicle, every second matters, preparation matters, and teamwork makes the difference.
Our commitment is to continue learning, sharpening our skills, and serving our community with the highest level of readiness possible.

Fire Prevention Education in Our Community!
Center Pigeon Fire Department is proud to have the opportunity to teach, assist, and promote fire prevention at four local schools and a public library!
One of our favorite tools for teaching fire safety is our Smoke House!
A smoke house is a hands-on educational tool that simulates what happens when smoke fills a home during a fire. It allows children to practice important fire safety skills in a safe, controlled environment, including how to recognize danger, stay low under smoke, crawl to safety, and understand the importance of having an escape plan and a designated meeting place outside.
These lessons help children build confidence, recognize the dangers of fire and smoke, and understand what to do in an emergency. Most importantly, we hope they take these lessons home and share them with their families!
At Center Pigeon Fire Department, we believe fire prevention starts with education. By working with our schools, libraries, and community, we can help protect lives, prevent emergencies, and build a safer community for everyone.
A special thank-you to the schools, library staff, teachers, and everyone who helps make these learning opportunities possible!
Founded by our community, for our community. Serving since 1956.

ANIMAL RESCUE | CENTER PIGEON FIRE DEPARTMENT

Yesterday, our department received a call from a concerned community member whose dog had become trapped in a narrow hole along bottom side of a rock slab.
Our members responded and located the dog stuck in a tight passage with a large boulder blocking access. Using rescue tools, cribbing, rope, and careful leverage, our firefighters worked together to safely move the large boulder and create enough space to make access and rescue the dog.
Thankfully, the rescue was a success, and the dog was reunited with its very thankful owner!
This incident is another example of the importance of teamwork, training, problem-solving, and having the right tools to get the job done. Whether we're responding to a structure fire, a vehicle accident, medical emergency or an animal in distress, our members are ready to answer the call.
We want to thank Firefighter Burch, Firefighter Davis pictured, along with Captain Davis thank you for a job well done!
Every call matters, and every life is worth saving.

Do you have a home fire escape plan? Now is the time to make one!
In the event of fire, time is the biggest enemy, and every second counts. In less than 30 seconds, a small flame can turn into a major fire. Have escape plans to get out of your home quickly. Practice E.D.I.T.H. — Exit Drills in the Home. with your family.
Creating Your Home Fire Escape Plan
Teach children how. To operate the locks on doors and windows.
Plan at least 2 escape routes from every room.
Provide alternatives for anyone with a disability.
Agree on a meeting place where everyone will gather after you have escaped.
Considering buying an Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL)-approved collapsible ladder to escape from upper story windows.
Practice Your Home Fire Escape Plan
Review your escape plan with everyone that stays in the house, including children.
Sound the smoke alarm.
Practice crawling low beneath the smoke.
Remember to check doors for heat with your hand; if a door is hot, do not open it.
Close the doors as you leave.
Practice with a collapsible ladder, if you have one.
Go directly to your meeting place; do not stop to find your pets or valuables.
Remember to GET OUT FIRST, then call 9-1-1 for help.
Practice your plan at least twice a year.
Teach your children their address and phone number
Additional Tips
If your clothes catch fire, stop, drop and roll until the flames are extinguished.
Replace smoke alarms older than 10 years.
Change the batteries in the smoke alarms, every 6 months (when you change your clocks).
Test alarms monthly by pushing the “test” button for 3-5 seconds.
If You Live in an Apartment Building
Learn and practice your building’s evacuation plan.
Know primary and secondary exits.
If you hear the fire alarm, leave immediately.
Use the stairs.
NEVER use elevators during a fire.
