Canyon Reservoir has two important jobs: water supply and flood protection.

Here’s how the Conservation Pool and Flood Pool work:

Conservation Pool: The reservoir’s normal operating range, up to 909 feet mean sea level (MSL). Water stored here supports regional water supplies and is managed by GBRA.

Flood Pool: The area above 909 feet MSL, extending to 943 feet. This additional storage provides space for incoming runoff during major rainfall events, helping reduce downstream flood risk.

Water enters Canyon Reservoir primarily through rainfall, runoff, and upstream flows in the Guadalupe River watershed. It can then be released downstream or withdrawn as raw water for treatment and use.

Two pools. Two purposes. One important role in managing the Guadalupe River Basin.

Canyon Lake is full!!

What is the Conservation Pool? You may have heard that Canyon Reservoir's Conservation Pool is now 100% full—but what does that actually mean?

The Conservation Pool is the portion of the reservoir specifically managed by GBRA to store water for municipal, industrial, agricultural, and environmental needs. It's the water supply that helps meet the everyday needs of the communities, businesses, and ecosystems that depend on the Guadalupe River. On July 22, GBRA will increase the Canyon Reservoir release rate to non-drought operations. Stay tuned for updates.

When the Conservation Pool is full, it means this dedicated water supply has been replenished. That's welcome news, but it doesn't mean our work is done. Water conservation remains important every day. Weather conditions can change quickly, and using water wisely helps protect this valuable resource for the future.
