Thank you to our U.S. Coast Guard partners for providing an outstanding career exploration program for our 5th and 6th grade students.

Our students had the opportunity to discover the many career opportunities available in the U.S. Coast Guard, get an up-close look at a small boat, and explore a helicopter. They also enjoyed hearing firsthand from a rescue swimmer and other Coast Guard personnel about their important roles, experiences, and contributions.

We are grateful to the U.S. Coast Guard for providing this engaging, hands-on learning experience, inspiring our students to explore future career possibilities, and continuing to build a strong partnership with our school.

Mrs.Sauer was recognized by Sustainable Jersey as a Sustainability Hero! ♻️🪴

New Sustainability Hero: Congratulations, Nicole Sauer!

💚Read more: https://bit.ly/SJ_Hero_Oct2026

For 12 years, Nicole has been part of the school community. As a special education teacher and advisor to the green team and Earth Club, she helps bring students, staff, and families together around sustainability.

She also leads the school’s Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification efforts — a big job for a small school and green team. Cape May City Elementary has maintained silver-level certification since 2016, most recently earning 375 points in 2026.

And Nicole’s favorite part? “The best part of my day is when I get to take the kids outside and they can get their hands in the dirt and their heads out of their screens.”
