Everyone deserves access to nutritious food. And sometimes, a little help can make a big difference.

Every day, we help individuals and families facing food insecurity through emergency food assistance and monthly food distributions.

Our next Labor of Love Food Distribution is Friday, October 23.

Whether you need assistance yourself or know a neighbor who might, we encourage you to drop by next week or reach out to learn more about the resources available.

You don’t need to be a tax expert to help a neighbor this tax season.

Each year, we partner with LifeStyles to provide free tax preparation assistance to individuals and families in Prince George’s County through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.

But before we can help our community, we need volunteers.

No previous tax experience is required. Training is provided to prepare volunteers for IRS certification.

Training is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, January 9 and Saturday, January 16, from 8 a.m.–4 p.m., with both in-person and virtual options available.

Volunteers can then serve as available from January through April.

Learn a new skill. Give a little of your time. Help individuals and families throughout Prince George’s County.

Ready to volunteer? Contact Linda Carney at [email protected] to reserve your training spot.

Today is .

So today we express our deepest gratitude for the caring, compassionate communities we call home. We’re grateful to those who step up to fulfill the needs of others.

We’re grateful for those who are striving to better their circumstances. Even as they accept help, many are also supporting others by telling them about the opportunities available and bringing them along on the journey.

Each day we encounter people giving and receiving with open hands and open hearts. None of us can be our best on our own.

Only together. Only through the power of community.

A backpack can carry more than books. 🎒💙

For students participating in the Backpack Snack program at John Bayne Elementary School in Capitol Heights, it can also help provide food and snacks when they’re away from school.

Recently, we joined students, families and community partners for John Bayne Elementary’s All White orientation event, where families had the opportunity to sign up for the fall program.

Our team prepared 100 grocery bags for participating families, helping make sure they started the program with a little extra support.

We’re proud to work alongside Pohanka Automotive and the John Bayne Elementary community to help make this possible!

Reminder that our office will be closed today — Tuesday, September 1 — for staff training.

Community Outreach & Development CDC has implemented a monthly in-service training day on the first Tuesday of each month to ensure that our team remains highly trained and our operations are most effective.

Staff will not be available in the office or answering phones during this training.
