Out knocking on doors in Carbondale this evening, Jamie had the opportunity to talk with community members about the mental health challenges facing Jackson County and how changes regarding the Choate Mental Health and Developmental Center impact local services.

Discussions like these often lead to important realizations. While many of us are familiar with standard health care advanced directives, we rarely think about them in terms of mental health.

Illinois law provides a legal way for you or a family member to plan ahead for mental health treatment, allowing you to outline your care preferences and designate a trusted decision-maker before a crisis occurs. Having a plan in place empowers individuals and protects their choices before an emergency happens.

Campaign Update

It has been a whirlwind few weeks on and off the campaign trail connecting with people across Southern Illinois! From community meetings to family traditions, here is a quick look at where Jamie has been:

Save Choate Town Hall: Discussed vital community needs alongside our local State Legislature.

SIMMS Grand Opening: Joined city staff to celebrate this exciting new addition in Carbondale.

Du Quoin State Fair: Spent time meeting families, listening to concerns about our judicial system, working the tent, and sitting down with Union leaders and members to discuss workforce priorities.

Sign Delivery and Installation & Family: Teaming up with his adult foster son to put up campaign signs across the county, plus taking the kids to enjoy the fair.

Murphysboro Apple Festival: Spent several days and nights catching up with Jackson County residents.

SIU Salukis: Wrapped up the weekend cheering on our home team—Go Dawgs!
